Well myself and John have had a topsy turvy relationship for years now. Things started out great for me and the big man. John and I really stirred up the PGA Tour when we arrived on the scene at the 1991 PGA Championship. Nobody had ever seen anything like that before. Maybe we could have been more sensible away from the course but what can I say?…We enjoyed each other’s company!
Your owner is affectionately known as Long John Daly. What’s your take on this nickname?
I used to share the shower with him after a round of golf and I can tell you Long John Daly is very generous indeed! No…In all seriousness I used to get frustrated when John got all the credit for crushing it off the tee…I mean I’m the one doing all the hard work.
True. Another of his nicknames is “The Wildthing”…how do you feel about that?
Well John is wild off the course but I resent that name because I think I actually hit it quite straight. It’s not that easy to hit it straight after a bottle of JD you know!
You once hit a shot off the top off a beer can. What was that like?
Well John and I had been out the night before so it was nice to have a hair from the dog that bit me!
You used to get all of the attention but now John has a new party piece that is turning people’s heads.
Really? What’s that?
His trousers…
Don’t get me started on those things…They’re ridiculous aren’t they? They don’t even do anything…at least I work for my fame!
And his new TV screen on his tour bag?
Seriously can we get back on track? Nobody cares about that stupid bag or John’s crazy trousers…I am the star of the show!
Ok…What happened at Niagra Falls? You were supposed to be the star of the show there but you weren’t able to get the ball over the falls. What went wrong?
I wasn’t feeling 100% that day…I think I was coming down with something.
Really? There are stories going around that you were out and about with John the night before and hadn’t taken it seriously.
No I’m not having that…Me and John may have been out the night before but we only had Diet Cokes!
