The Bank House Review – Wiggles Golf Society

Review of the Bank House Golf & Country Club, Worcester

Have just come back from 2 nights at The Bank House near Worcester.
Went away with 16 lads, and would definitely recommend it as a great venue to visit for your next golf break.

Hotel

3* hotel, attractive old building from the outside, and perfectly comfortable on the inside. It has a quite small bar but there is Sky Sports and they serve a decent selection of beers circa £3.50 a pint.
Food in restaurant is ok, but a step down from meals I’ve had at Selsdon park and Foxhills. Breakfast there is a good selection of fry up, fruit and cereals which was all good. There is a small outdoor pool but it was covered up when we were there which was a shame. So not much in terms of spending time on site making full use of leisure facilities!

Bransford Golf Club

It’s about a 3 minute walk from hotel to golf course down a dirt track, no sign posts for golf course so could confuse people at first.
Initial impressions of golf course is that it is a bit un-cared for, practice facilities are a bit scruffy but golf course is very good.
There is a lot of water about, course is not long but very punishing if you go off line and it has 6 par 5’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 3’s so quite quirky. The back 9 is very good all the way through, holes to remember are 11th, (which you stand on the tee and say to yourself “I don’t know whether to paint this or play it!”) long par 3 carrying 180 yards of water. The 16th where your approach shot is similar to playing into the 10th at the Belfry. 18th long par 5 with a 200 yard carry off the tee all over water. There is a decent bar at the golf club for after round beers, and a balcony in the clubhouse overlooking the 10th tee.

Night out in Worcester

Worcester centre is only 10 mins by car and costs £7 in a cab, very pretty town and plenty of places to go out. Friday night is the night when all the underage lot go out, we went to a club called Tramps where it was 99p to get in and 99p for a bottle of fosters, but we probably upped the average age by about 10 years. Velvet Lounge is decent, bit more classy and there are plenty of other bars and clubs about. We certainly felt that Worcester had never seen 16 raaa’s but we have all come away alive so can safely say the people of Worcester are friendly enough!

Warwickshire Golf & Country Club

We also played the Warwickshire on the way up on the Friday, a massive resort with two 18 hole courses and a 9 hole par 3 course. We played the Earls course which was excellent. Condition was really good, it is pretty long and again quite tight as the rough was punishing. There was quite a bit of water and some beautiful tree lined holes. Quite an Americanised feel to it though as quite a few of the holes are quite open and feel as though the holes will be good when they are finished.

Overall I would give the Bank House as a whole, 7 out of 10, Bransford Golf Club 8 out of 10, and the Warwickshire 8.5 out of 10.
