Who has the ugliest swing in professional golf?

By February 15, 2010December 3rd, 20142 Comments

Now I’m not going to say I’m Ben Hogan personified when it comes to swinging a bit of metal on a golf course.  With a selection of new fangled techniques as well as shapes and sizes of players changing in recent years, the golfing public have been treated to a wide range of swings for the viewing pleasure. Although there is more than one way to skin a cat, some swings would be adept in a swinging an axe than playing golf.

Perhaps the modern founder of these unorthodox swing techniques can be seen in all round nice guy Jim Furyk. With a practice swing that could tick most boxes for being fairly ‘normal’, his actual swing turns into something that has been likened to an octopus falling out of a tree. This less than text book effort is far from pretty, but since turning pro in 1992 Furyk has compiled a golfing cv that is nearing the golf hall of fame in terms of success. So in short, although golfing commentators will wax lyrical about the likes of Woods or McIlroy (and rightly so they are technically very impressive and produce results few can achieve), there are the likes of Furyk who produce results week in, week out.

With some of the younger members of the PGA and European Tours displaying great levels of flexibility and strength, perhaps this allows for a less than text book offering when trying to launch a golf ball towards the fairway.

So here are the golfers –

Jim Furyk – Current World Number 5 and former US Open winner.
Golf swing above – just incase you can’t picture an Octopus falling out of a tree…

Rickie Fowler – Former World Amateur Number 1 and twice runner-up on the PGA Tour, rumoured to be rather good looking…

Soren Kjeldsen
– Current World Number 42, multiple European Tour winner and owner of some fantastic golfing outfits.

Sergio Garcia
– Current World Number 15, multiple European Tour winner, possibly the greatest golfer not to have won a Major and someone who may putt worse than me.

Matt Kuchar
– Current World Number 43 and the third American to feature on the list, nominated by Barry in our office, the former US Amateur Champion is a bit of a fan of the draw apparently…

So if Jim Furyk’s swing looks like an octopus falling out of a tree, please offer your comments on the swing of Thaworn Wiratchant, of Thailand. I can hardly wait!

Although he may now be a senior, Eamonn Darcy has always had the ugliest golf swing. The man is a hero, for us , who learnt(?) to swing a golf club without tuition!!
