Golfing holidays in Austria

Austria’s varied landscape is better known for winter sports than golf, but during the summer months, its verdant soil plays host to some surprisingly formidable courses.

Austria’s diverse landscape begins in the towering Tirol region, where Kyle Phillips has manufactured a remarkable project at Eichenheim, and the Golden Bear has laid out a signature Nicklaus design at Gut Altentann – this mountainous terrain is heaven sent for the creation of special golfing venues.

The lower lying land is also home to some serious golf courses, as is highlighted by the now annual Austrian Open, which comes to the excellent Fontana Golf Club in Vienna. In golf resort terms, the most prestigious name is located in the Graz region - Steiermarkischer Murhof is not only the most prestigious course in the country, it is also a superb 4* comprehensive golf and leisure complex.
