The 2011 PGA Championship was staged at the demanding Atlanta Athletic Club and at the start of the week all eyes were on Tiger Woods who had returned to action at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational just weeks before. The focus stayed on Tiger for the first two rounds but for all the wrong reasons. Playing some of the worst golf of his professional career, Woods spectacularly crashed out at the halfway stage.
Once Tiger was gone all eyes turned to the real action and after a gruelling week of golf two rookies were battling it out at the top of the leader board coming down the stretch. A playoff was required to separate Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley and the latter claimed the title in his 1st ever Major Championship, becoming only the third player in history to win a major at the first time of asking. (And the first to win using a belly putter!)
The 2012 event heads to the world famous Kiawah Island Ocean Course and promises to be every bit as enthralling as the 2011 tournament. The Ocean Course was the scene for the infamous 1991 Ryder Cup, dubbed ‘The War on the Shore’, and will no doubt provide all the thrills and spills that make Major Championship golf such a fascinating spectacle.
