‘Fore!’ becomes ‘Fire!’ for California golfer
‘Burning up the golf course’ is a common phrase used by many golf journalists and TV golf commentators to describe a player’s good performance on the course.
But one California golfer gave a whole new meaning to the term by burning up the golf course in an altogether different fashion!
The drama happened on Saturday at the Shady Canyon golf course in Irvine, California when a golfer struck his club against a rock whilst trying to play a shout of the rough. The resultant spark caused by the iron-rock contact caused a wildfire which burned around 12 acres of land and drew a response of around 150 firefighters to combat the blaze report the BBC.
Fire officials told that the blaze burned through the rough on the densely wooded hillside into vegetation next to the course.
Southern California suffers from massive wildfires which often arise in dry conditions, and while officials haven’t named the careless golfer it has been reported that he will not face any charges over his fire-raising efforts.
