1 Night, 2 Rounds
- 1 Night Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at Bells Hotel & Country Club
- 2 Rounds at Forest of Dean Golf Club
1 Night, 2 Rounds
Tucked into the heart of Gloucestershire's rolling countryside, Bells Hotel & Country Club delivers exactly what a proper golf break should: a genuine parkland test, comfortable rooms overlooking the fairways and a clubhouse where you can settle in after your round. The 18-hole course sits within the wider Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to the England and Wales border, so you're surrounded by woodland, limestone scenery and that proper countryside feel rather than housing estates.
You're also well placed for an easy weekend. It's about an hour's drive from Bristol and Cardiff, and the market town of Coleford is just down the road with a good mix of pubs and places to eat if you fancy a change from the clubhouse. If you've got time between rounds, the Wye Valley is ideal for a leg-stretcher, with riverside walks, viewpoint trails and a few historic spots nearby.
Who is this for?
Golf societies and groups looking for a straightforward, good-value break in the countryside. Couples or small groups who want a relaxed golf-and-stay package without the fuss of a big resort. Anyone planning a weekend away in the South West or South Wales who wants quality parkland golf, comfortable accommodation and easy access to local pubs and scenery.
Who is it best for?
Mid-to-high handicappers who'll enjoy a fair test without being overwhelmed. Groups who value a classic clubhouse atmosphere, decent food and rooms that overlook the course. Golfers who prefer parkland layouts with character over manicured resort courses, and anyone looking for a base to explore the Wye Valley while getting a few rounds in.

The Forest of Dean course is not ultra-long by modern standards at a little over 6,000 yards from the back tees, but it will keep you entertained throughout your round - and a prettier parkland course you will struggle to find. Established in 1973, the Forest of Dean course has matured majestically over the last three decades, winding its way around the Wye Valley and providing some enchanting views over the surrounding countryside.
With rolling parkland, lakes, streams, bunkers and woodland, this undulating par-69 layout provides a challenge to all categories of golfer and is a joy to play. The golf course is well-maintained and feels very mature, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The complex also incorporates a large practice ground, chipping green and putting green, and another bonus is that the course is renowned for its excellent drainage, ensuring great conditions for visiting golfers - one reason it now hosts the PGA West Region Order of Merit tournament, the Forest Classic.

The hotel sits beside the first tee, which makes early starts painless. There are 53 en-suite rooms set within the course, so you'll often wake up to views across the fairways and the bowling green. Two rooms are designed for wheelchair access.
Rooms are clean, comfortable and geared for golfers, with a TV, hairdryer, telephone and tea and coffee facilities. There's also a gym available to guests if you want a quick session before dinner.
Food is a strong point. The restaurant serves homemade dishes using local produce where possible, and the clubhouse bar is open seven days a week for meals, snacks and a well-earned drink. With BT Sport and Sky Sports on the screens, it's an easy place to settle in after your round.
On a sunny day, head straight for the balcony overlooking the bowling green. It's a cracking spot for a pint while you watch the later groups come in. It's a classic clubhouse setting, the kind of spot where you can relax, talk through the round and plan tomorrow's strategy without anyone rushing you along.
Coleford is a short walk away, so if you want to explore the town, try a different pub or pick up supplies, you're not reliant on taxis or long drives. The Wye Valley surrounds the course, and if you've got time off the course, there are limestone gorges, archaeological sites and walking trails all within easy reach. It's a genuine countryside setting, the kind of place where you can combine serious golf with a bit of exploration and still feel like you've had a relaxing break.

Friendly staff, accommodation was basic but nice and clean and for the money was good value. Clubhouse and bar were lovely However we were expecting a 3 course meal. We checked on your golf travel and that’s what the details suggested. However we were only offered 2 courses

Pleasantly surprised. Pro needs to manage first tee better to stop the pile ups. Other than that a very good trip.

We arrived to 30 plus people on the first tee, had a word in Pro shop & our original tee was put back to 13-25 & then we found out we wouldn't get out until 14-20 at best, no starter to organise, in the end we booked Monmouth GC for the two days, I won't be returning to the Bells Country Club anytime soon

Rounds were slow to begin with as the Par 3, 2nd hole tends to cause a slight delay but otherwise fine. A few tricky shots over water / drainage ditches and a narrow / blind tee shot on the 14th. Overall a nice place for a round, great for societies and trips. Staff at the bar / hotel were great and only a short walk down the hill into town to the local pubs for some variety.
