That simple set-up is exactly what many groups want for a relaxed UK golf break, particularly if you're trying to keep costs sensible without sacrificing comfort.

From the very first tee to the final putt, the golf course at Calderfields will question and test the skills of golfers of all abilities.
Measuring 6,509 from the tips, Calderfields is by no means long but the narrow fairways are well protected by rough and water hazards. Large, undulating greens and an abundance of water are the main features of this pretty parkland course where accuracy is of paramount importance.
Look out for the 8th hole where you have to cross two separate water hazards before arriving safely on the green.
The Staffordshire Performance Golf Centre was opened in 2017 to be a hub for visiting golfers. There is a fully stocked Pro Shop, a Golf Simulator room with TrackMan radar systems and custom club fitting. A golf fitness centre that targets the areas of weakness within the body to help develop the game, with nutritional programmes to help reduce body fat and increase muscular strength for a more controlled powerful swing.
The Bliss Sports Therapy & Beauty has all the tools required to leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised after your round. While a new Par 3 academy course with wooded areas, undulating banks and water on a number of 6 holes provides the chance to test your wedge play.

The lodges at Calderfields give you a comfortable base for a golf break near Birmingham, with the big selling point being how easy everything is. You're staying right by the course, so there's no early-morning faff getting to a tee time and no end-of-day travel when you'd rather be sat with a drink. Each lodge looks straight out over the course, so you can watch the final groups come in while you're relaxing after your own round.
Rooms are cosy and well set up for a short stay, with practical essentials such as Freeview TV, a telephone and tea and coffee facilities. Room service is also available if you fancy keeping things low-key after your round. The layout feels more like a home than a hotel room, which makes a real difference if you're planning a longer stay or using Calderfields as a base for playing other courses in the area. You've got your own space to spread out, talk through the day's golf and plan what's next.
Food and drink are straightforward and very golfer-appropriate. The Bar and Grill is the natural post-round stop for a pint and something filling, serving the kind of hearty, well-cooked food that hits the spot after 18 holes. The Sunday Carvery has a strong local following and is worth factoring into your timings if you're a roast dinner person. For a slightly smarter evening meal, the Lake View Restaurant offers a more refined setting with views over the lakes and the course. The atmosphere is inviting without being stuffy, and the menu leans towards classic dishes done well, making it a good shout for couples or groups who want a proper sit-down meal without anything feeling formal.
For small groups, the lodge set-up is particularly handy. You've got space to unwind, enjoy the views and keep everything simple, which is often exactly what you want from a golf break. The self-contained nature of the lodges means you can relax at your own pace, whether that's an early night before a big round or a longer evening going over the day's highlights.

We were a 20 man mixed ability golf society and stayed in the Calderfields G&GC lodges... and they were great! Plenty of room, good showers, over looking the 18th fairway, and only a short distance to the Clubhouse and the restaurant. Food on our overnight stay was very good. Plenty of choice when we checked in, and all the food was well portioned and cooked to perfection. Absolutely no complaints from any of the attendees. There was a wedding on in the main function room, but it didn't impact our stay at all. In fact, we mingled with some of the guests outside on a lovely balmy summers evening. Also worth noting that the beer was well priced!

The log cabins were a bit tired. The food was very disappointing, the main course was reheated Carvery. The hotel was very busy during the day but very quiet in the evening. No sky sports so we went to a local pub fro drinks and to watch the open golf.

Bunkers need more sand. Cut of the greens sometimes affected putting

This was the first time playing here. The tee boxes and fairways were in a reasonable condition. The greens were in a fairly poor state although the holes on each green were in a reasonable patch of the green. The areas surrounding the greens were very poor as were the bunkers. We would play there again but only if the green, aprons and bunkers were up to scratch.

Greens need a little work and bunkers a bit more sand. Nice course in general with challenging holes

Unfortunately the weather was very poor (consistent heavy rain), so although the course absorbed most of it, the pathways between holes became very muddy

Some testing holes to test all handicaps, nice flat course tree-lined fairways with some water hazards. Considering the amount of rainfall over the last few months the course was in good condition.

We were a 20 man mixed ability golf society. Fairways are quite tight, and there are lots of opportunity to go OOB on the left... certainly more forgiving if you got a slice (err... sorry, power fade!). Greens were a bit slow compared to most courses (and certainly my home course), but were pretty true. Some really interesting holes as well... it always good to drive off over water, and also to play back over water to a green. All in all, I think everyone in our society enjoyed the course and the facilities.

The greens had sprinklers but they weren’t working. Greens were very dry and hard, manually water during the hottest part of the day. The course was dangerous particularly on the front 9 with balls crossing fairways and nearly hitting other golfers. I would not recommend this venue, it’s cheap but not worth it.
