Established in 1891 by the Grand Duke Michael of Russia, who returned from St Andrews having experienced the game of golf for the first time, the Old Course at Cannes Mandelieu is entrenched as one of the very best in the area, and is one of the few to be located on the coast.

While the identity of the original course designer is something of a mystery, there is no doubting the legacy of the revision by Harry S. Colt, the British golfer responsible for some of the finest in the United Kingdom; Colt's astute eye is seen in the excellent bunkering, which is the ideal complement to the tight fringes created by the parasol pine trees.
