Hackett was fortunate to be given a phenomenal piece of land on which to build, and he has used the existing dunes sympathetically to produce a classic links. Overlooking the Blacksod Bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond, the situation is utterly spectacular, and although it may slightly remote, the unspoiled and pure golfing experience that awaits visitors to Carne absolutely justifies the travelling time.
The lucky golfers that make it will instantly understand that this is one of those rare plots of turf that seems to have been naturally made to be a golf course; during construction, Hackett barely had top move any land, and to a certain extent, the marvellous terrain instructed how the golf course would ultimately exist.
