John Harris and Brian Griffiths conceived the design of the layout, using the natural woodland to demarcate the holes, and fashioning strategic water features that make course management of the utmost importance. Telford now impressively boasts greens laid on a suspended water system, the same technique employed at Augusta National, and the link to Georgia's legendary golf course does not end there; 1991 US Masters winner Ian Woosnam achieved his first professional tournament victory at Telford.
The course is set within 170 acres of charming Shropshire countryside, inside the boundaries of the Ironbridge Gorge, a World Heritage Site, and is a fantastic place to enjoy a round of golf.
Telford's very own driving range is the perfect place to warm up and down, or to iron out those technical glitches in your swing.
The substantial investment programme undertaken by new owners Q Hotels, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2007, is designed to upgrade every facet of Telford's hotel, but crucially the excellent golf course is unaffected.
The staggered scheme will allow the hotel to continue functioning to a high standard, and the end result should be superb. The 96 bedrooms are all spacious and comfortable, with many offering fantastic views over the golf course and the estate.
The Telford Golf & Spa Hotel's overall package, including the superb golf, leisure and conference facilities, makes it an excellent choice for a golf break in the West Midlands.
The Reflections Spa and Leisure complex is fitted with a superb swimming pool, a sauna, jacuzzi, squash courts and a well-equipped gym. Guests can also try their hand at pool and table tennis.
Telford's restaurant is one of the most spectacular, with tremendous views over the Ironbridge Gorge.
The Sports Bar is perfect for a few looseners after a tough round.
