THE VALE HOTEL, GOLF & SPA RESORT

The Wales National is one of the best new golf courses in the United Kingdom, and having already hosted Europro, Challenge and Seniors Tour events, it seems destined to be one of the country's foremost tournament venues. When stretched to its fullest, the course measures over 7,400 yards, and as such it is a consistent test of ball-striking. Highlights certainly include the monstrous 2^nd hole, which is the longest par-5 in all of Wales.

The neighbouring Lake Course is under 6,500 yards, but that may be just the ticket after a long slog around the brutal Wales National. Although it is smaller, there is no shortage of entertainment, and the challenge is considerable enough to have hosted national PGA events. As the name suggests, the main obstacle for visiting golfers are the numerous water hazards. The main feature is a 20-acre lake, which influences many holes, not least the signature 12^th, which boasts an island green, and is ranked as one of the best in the UK.

The Vale's qualified PGA professionals use state-of-the-art video equipment to offer superb tuition.

The hotel is built on ground that was once part of historic Hensol Castle estate, and is set in an area of outstanding beauty. In spite of this, the resort itself is only a few minutes from the M4, and offers easy access into Cardiff city centre.

Every one of the 4* hotel's 143 guest rooms is designed to ensure visitors a comfortable and luxurious stay, and a large number of them afford spectacular views across the estate and the golf course.

Wales' largest spa facility was opened at the Vale in 2002 under the guidance of the industry leader "The Sanctuary", and is superbly equipped, with 19 deluxe treatment rooms. The holistic approach of the spa is designed to treat mind, body and spirit with a range of health and beauty therapy.

The award-winning Lakes Restaurant serves fine dining in a large Victorian conservatory.
