Spectacular views of the South Downs are part of the attraction of the excellent Crowborough Beacon Golf Club, which is located around the highest point in East Sussex. However, the main appeal comes from the club’s terrific heathland golf course.

Established in 1895, Crowborough Beacon has changed little since its early days, and not at all since 1957, which is testament to the quality of the layout. As is the case with the best of south-east England’s heathland courses, the fairways are demarcated by swathes of purple heather, which not only make Crowborough Beacon difficult, but also extremely difficult.
Though little known, this club is a fantastic golfing destination, and is well worth including in a tour of Sussex’s best.
