It may be located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but Furnas is a once-in-a-lifetime golfing experience that is well worth the trip. The incredible landscape of the Azores is forms the basis of Furnas, which neighbours lakes and thermal springs.

The original nine holes were conceived by Philip Mackenzie Ross, the saviour of Turnberry's Ailsa Course, before the subsequent nine were added in 1990 by Bob Cameron and Chris Powell, completing Furnas as it is today.
The fundamental tenets of the design at the Azores gem is that the course is not imposed upon the landscape, rather the architects have sympathetically utilised the natural characteristics of the terrain. It is this that creates such a unique and intriguing golfing experience, and why so many avid golfers make the trip to the tropical isles.
