Nine time French Open host Saint Germain lies in the heart of the forest of the same name, and is among France's most celebrated venues. The club originally played along the banks of the Seine around the turn of the 20th century, but relocated when the river repeatedly flooded the course.

The 6,734 yard championship layout was most recently used for top level tournament play when Seve Ballesteros captured the Open De France in 1985, but it remains a woodland course of the utmost quality. The course's creators were some of many that sought the advice of the great Harry S. Colt, and his design remained in place for the majority of the century, until the Colt Association decided to take action in the 1990s to restore Saint Germain to Colt's original vision.

There is nothing overtly complicated about Golf De Saint Germain, but its subtlety and beauty are undeniable; the manicured fairways snake through banks of mature woodland, and the bunkering and green structure are typical of a man who could call names like Sunningdale from his past repertoire.

Just a short drive from the heart of Paris, Saint Germain is a traditional gem, and long may it stay so.
