Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and is also the largest of the seven. Built on the back of extraordinary oil and gas reserves, Abu Dhabi is phenomenally wealthy, and Doha, its focal point and largest settlement, is becoming increasingly cosmopolitan. Abu Dhabi is a promontory that extends some 100 miles into the Persian Gulf, and is located to the south east of Dubai, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia across its southern border.
The increased opening of Abu Dhabi is being helped by the emirate’s efforts to become the cultural capital of the U.A.E; the highlight of this is the $200 project currently underway to turn Frank Gehry’s design for a Guggenheim into reality. The golfing focus is on the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, which is becoming increasingly well known.
