Just a line to say how much we enjoyed our short golf break last week. All very well organised, thank you very much, and the accommodation was superb. The course was a test, it was for us anyway! The food was worth dying for and the staff were most helpful, polite and pleasant. Worth another trip sometime, maybe. Thanks again,
What a flying start to our golf holiday in France: a two night stay and play golf break package at the Golf Hotel de Saint Saens. It took a little over two hours down the motorway from Calais and there we were. The hotel was easy to find but I had taken the trouble to plot the route using Google maps.
The reception and the check in process were very low-key, informal and friendly. We were immediately at ease and ready to relax and enjoy our golf trip to France. Our bedroom, in the new annexe, was large, modern and comfortable. When we turnedup for dinner, in a cosy dining room, we were received with courtesy andwarmth. At first we thought we had been given the wrong menu: the choices for thefour courses were so good. The food itself was excellent and the wine, and other drinks, werereasonably priced with a wide selection. Breakfast was self-service and more thanadequate. There was good choice for lunch and again it was reasonably priced. The staff were very good: friendly, efficient and welcoming.
We both loved the golf course. It is quirky, interesting, a good test of golf for all levels, and features an abundance with flora and fauna. The opening hole demands an accurate tee shot and on the lower levels water is a common hazard. From the sixth you climb up through the treesand beyond that into more open areas of the course where the holes provide differentkinds of challenge as the long grass of the rough replaces the trees lower down.
What better way to finish off a round of golf than to enjoy a glass of beer or wine on thepatio at the rear of the hotel overlooking the last green. One of the major attractions of this location is its individuality and lack of pretentiousness. Many golf resorts that we have visited, and enjoyed, have been slicker, larger, very efficient but somewhat impersonal. This is not true of Saint Saens.
I would rate our French golf break as a 9/10 and certainly intend to go back soon. I would also book through Your Golf Travel who provided an excellent service from start to finish. The value for money was also excellent and far superior to other golf travel companies I have used in the past...top marks!
We enjoyed our golf holiday at the Saint Saens. The setting was magnificent and the course was challenging but you could make good scores. The course was in good conditions and the greens were excellent. All the staff were efficient and pleasant. The food was excellent well cooked and well presented.
We stayed in the lodges which were new and very clean. The shower was spacious and the shower room was of generous proportions. The only drawback and it was a pain was that there were no drawers at all. We went for a week and we had to live out of the suitcases so it was difficult to keep clothes fresh. There was a wardrobe with 4 hangers but the staff did supply us with extra hangers when we asked.
I would return however and I will recommend it to friends. Thank you to Your Golf Travel for their efficient, helpful and knowledgeable service. We had a lovely time.
We all had a fantastic golf break. St Seans is still amazing value for money, with a first class Customer Service, any request being dealt with. The food is beyond expectations, with a good choice of wine.Golf Course is very pretty and proved to be very demanding this year, probably because of the rain; the rough was very long especially for the Lady golfers!
We shall definitely be returning with the hope that, the course is shorter next year.
The service was great and efficient from Your Golf Travel also; I will be contacting them for our next visit.
Our golf break was at Golf Hotel De Saint-Saens. We found the course to be in fair condition having regard to the recent wet, cold weather although the Greens were in poor shape this year; problems with a disease. The Club did warn us about this before we arrived so no surprises. Given the conditions, wet and windy, the 18+ handicappers found the fairways hard to reach and in such conditions I would suggest playing off the Blue Tee's would be of benefit. Otherwise the course is in a beautiful setting and many holes perfect tests of golf; particularly the 4th 5th & 6th but it’s almost unfair to single out any particular hole on an otherwise excellent golfing challenge.
The Clubhouse relies on good weather for lounging as there are no comfortable chairs in the Hotel. The outside veranda is however a splendid spot for a thirst quencher overseeing the return home 18th Green. The Club atmosphere is ever convivial, the staff always helpful and between broken English and poor French able to satisfy all needs. Having a few other exiles around the place made the evenings a bit of fun.
The food quality and service arrangements are excellent and lunch prices modest. A pint of larger at 5 Euros is about, if not below average for France these days but we negotiated a rate of 10 Euros for a large carafe of house wine of which we sank a few. As a group we were given private dining facilities added to which was first class waiter service. In this respect the Hotel and its accommodation are 10 out of 10 for what it is.
With GPS you can find a loo in Bagdad these days but even with a creased map the course is not hard to find.
Out of 10 I'd say the whole experience deserves 9 ignoring the weather but taking into account the poor state of the greens this year. This trip was our third visit and won't be our last.
For my many sins I get the job of organising overseas and away tours for the senior section of my Golf Club. I discovered YGT about 3 years ago and in that time my enquiries have always been handled with courteous efficiency.
When we reviewed this golf break package - 2nights dinner bed and breakfast – unlimited golf and Channel tunnel crossing = £189 per person we thought it can’t be that good for that price.............................. How wrong we were................... WOW.................. it was exceptional.
Channel Crossing - could not have been easier – very slick indeed - minimal waiting.
Accommodation – we stayed in the chateaux, the rooms were very roomy with an enormous bed! – Bathroom had recently been upgraded and had a very good shower and bath etc
The service from all staff was outstanding; they could not make you more welcome. The food was fantastic – scallops – fillet steak – crumble cream presented beautifully – all exceptional quality. Breakfast self service however more than adequate. We also viewed the chalet accommodation at the rear of the chateaux which again was of a high specification.
Golf – the course was very well presented. It is a very interesting course and could be divided in to 3 sections – ground level tight with many water hazards, then into a wooded section which was very picturesque beautiful bluebells with some lovely holes. The third section very open with a few dog legs. Overall a test of golf but not too difficult especially when you play it a 2nd time. The golf was unlimited so if you wanted to go out for another few holes it was not a problem.
Overall a brilliant weekend and exceptional value for money (thanks to Your Golf Travel) – we will definitely be returning - Don’t be put off by the price!
