Just north of the city centre is Headingley, the oldest golf club in Leeds. The original design has benefited from revision by Dr. Alister Mackenzie, a resident of the local area, and the great Harry S. Colt, who was commissioned to configure the course’s bunkering.

Headingley Golf Club can also be booked as part of Leeds Golf Tours. View the other courses and hotels on the tour.

The heathland gem is world famous and much loved, and has hosted prestigious events throughout its history; in 1923, Headingley was the host of what was billed as the ‘unofficial championship of the world’, pitting Walter Hagen against Gene Sarazen.

Now measuring 6,720 yards from the back tees, Headingley is an impressive tournament host, and is now better than ever thanks to the reconstruction of many greens in accordance with USGA standards.

Abundant wildlife makes home on the verdant heathland at Headingley, which remains one of the most charming and enjoyable club’s around the city. Be sure to include Headingly in your next Leeds golf tour for a true championship test.
