On our recent golf break in Spain we played the courses at Calanova, Cabopino and El Chaparrel. Unfortunately, there was a thunderstorm the day we arrived and the landslides which resulted from the storms temporarily closed Calanova. However, it is to the credit of the staff that they worked tirelessly to clear the paths and we managed to get a game on 17 of the holes.
Over the course of the next two days we played the other courses and we enjoyed them both, with Cabopino edging it as our favourite. Both courses had to be treated with respect and on certain occasions it was like playing target golf as a perfect tee shot would result in you having to negotiate a tree in the middle of the fairway. The par fives were unusual to say the least, due to the layout. Having said that, we enjoyed the challenge and when we venture abroad again I'd include Cabopino alongside Mijas and La Cala as the courses we will most likely want to play again.
We stayed in the Hotel Las Palmeras, which was clean, well positioned and the food was more than satisfactory. We arrived about 1100hrs and our rooms were available which was a real bonus as this was earlier than we were supposed to turn up! The facilities in the hotel were good as well and we enjoyed being a stones throw from the beach.
Everything else about the trip ran like clockwork. On each and every occasion, whether it was a transfer to/from the airport or to the golf courses, the drivers attended on time and were polite, informative and helpful. The staff at each of the courses were expecting us and the checking in process was seamless. In conclusion, we will use your services again as every aspect of the holiday that you were responsible for went off without a hitch.

We’ve just returned from a 5 night golf break in Fuengirola where 16 of us stayed at the Hotel Las Palmeras. We were right in the middle of the golf resort, with plenty of bars & restaurants within a 5 or 10 minute walk. The hotel accommodation was clean and everything worked as expected. The restaurant was fine for breakfast and evening meal, but there are numerous cheap alternatives nearby serving delicious traditional fare.
Would have to recommend the London Pub across from the hotel – we met there every night before heading out down Fish Alley to eat or visit a couple of good Irish bars. We’d inevitably return to the London Pub and were well looked after until we were thrown out at 0400 every morning!
Our first day’s golf was played at Santa Clara which had been closed for 3 weeks previously and had only opened the day we turned up. This was due to severe flash flooding which caused the river to burst its banks and flood the golf course. Have to say you’d never have known as was in really good condition. The clubhouse was decent and so were the rest of the facilities and I would definitely play again.
Next up was Alhaurin in the mountains which was some 35 minutes from the hotel. This Seve designed course was visually stunning with some incredibly tough, but entertaining holes. Again the club house & facilities were very good and having played very well would certainly return. We played matchplay which was great...I would guess most golfers would struggle to play to their handicaps around here.
Wednesday took us to Santana which I have to admit I was looking forward to the most of all the golf courses we had booked as part of our golf holiday package. There are some great golf holes, alongside some very quirky ones! The clubhouse & bar were very cosy and the service was great.
We played next at El Chaparral which seemed to divide opinion in the group. Personally I liked it, but others were not so positive – probably down to those playing well liking it and those that didn’t not! Lovely clubhouse and bar/patio area and very entertaining layout of raised tees & greens, 6 par 3s, par 4s and par 5s. Not easy, but I would definitely play this one again.
Last up was Lauro, which was about 10 minutes past Alhaurin but very different in layout. Much flatter design but still with a good mix of holes you had to think your way round – we played holes 1 to 18. Lauro had the best greens of the week, much quicker and more in line with what we were expecting before our trip. The courtyard club house & bar were very good, with the local Tapas & beer excellent value – thoroughly recommended.
All the courses offered very good service, were very friendly and helpful. The real stars of our trip though were B-MET, the transfer & pick up company. Always on time and helpful, they took us everywhere with a smile and plenty of advice on how to play the course.
This was our 21st annual society golf tour away and everything considered it was a good trip that was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Our golf break at the Hotel Las Palmeras in Fuengirola was fantastic. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars in this part of Spain and the prices are very reasonable. The beaches and the golf courses aren’t bad either!
We were impressed with the arrangements made by Your Golf Travel and had no difficulties with checking in on the day and pleased with the friendly reception we received. The golf courses selected were El Chapparall, Cabapino, Alahaurin, Marbella Golf & Country and Calanova, all of which were within easy reach by car of our hotel.
With the exception of Calanova, we enjoyed all the courses, which are well established with excellent, often palatial club house facilities and reasonably priced drinks and food etc.
Overall an enjoyable golf holiday was had by all with excellent service from you. We expect to book again next for next year and are looking forward to doing so.
