ISLE OF WEDMORE GOLF CLUB

Despite the name, this course isn't on an island. The name stems the area in Saxon times, when Wedmore was completely surrounded by wet marshland and the Somerset Levels were flooded.

From its lofty vantage point, the course has some of the best views of the Mendip Hills, Cheddar Valley, Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels to enjoy during your round. The panoramic view of the Somerset levels from the 11th green in particular will make a long lasting impression. 

The 18-hole, par-70 course is over 6,000 yards long and laid out in two 9-hole loops, both of which start and finish at the comfortable clubhouse. The front nine offers a par-5, five par-4s and three par-3s to test your abilities whilst the back nine has three long par-5s one after the other, and a tricky par-3 over water. Placement is the key when playing Wedmore as a misplaced tee shot can be the difference between a good or bad hole.  However, the course is fairly set up so that both experienced and less experienced players will enjoy their game.

The course is also in excellent condition in all seasons, and rarely closed during the winter months, with temporary greens used only occasionally. The Clubhouse is constructed of natural stone and designed in the style of a traditional barn. It has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere throughout and has views over the 18th green and 1st tee.  There's an excellent variety of home-cooked food available and an a la carte menu is available on Friday and Saturday nights. There's also a well-stocked pro shop, lessons for individuals and groups plus an indoor studio for teaching and custom club fitting centre.
