The Jockey Club at San Isidro is an exclusive retreat where the great and the good of Buenos Aires escape for some weekend relaxation. As its name suggests, the club is not only concerned with golf - it is in fact an established institution of polo, a traditional national pursuit. However, the Jockey Club is home to Argentina's number one golf course.

The Red and Blue courses were both opened in 1935, a year after their designer, Dr. Alister Mackenzie, died. They are a fitting tribute to one of golf architecture's greatest names. The stand out at the Jockey Club is the Red Course, which remains one of highlights of Mackenzie's extraordinary legacy.

When Angel Cabrera hoisted the trophy aloft at the 2001 Argentina Open, the moment was a realisation of a dream for the country's golfing masses; seeing their favourite son record victory on Argentina's best course can only have been capped by his subsequent U.S. Open victory.

The golf course is classic Mackenzie; beautifully sculpted fairways are only guaranteed with the most accurate drive, while the contoured greens are a joy to behold. The Jockey Club should be a must for lovers of Mackenzie's work, and is the perfect antidote to the vibrant city of Buenos Aires.
