La Envia's golf course sits in a dramatic valley setting, framed by towering mountain ranges that create a sheltered micro-climate. Thanks to the valley setting and shelter from the mountains, you'll often find calmer, more comfortable conditions than you might expect in this part of Spain.

The layout takes full advantage of the natural terrain, with elevation changes and strategic bunkering that reward accurate shot-making, while the surrounding peaks provide a stunning backdrop to every hole.

La Envia Golf Club

The 6,263 yard layout was conceived by Francisco Mendoza, and is bordered by a fine array of indigenous flora and fauna, including palm and mimosa trees. The luscious green of the golf course is effectively an oasis in the midst of the Almerian desert, and the great variety of distinctive holes makes the course a real pleasure.

La Envia is always maintainted to an excellent standard, and with the outstanding weather conditions year-round is a gem of a choice for a golfing getaway in Almeria.

Accommodation at Hotel Envia Almeria Wellness & Golf 5*

Just ten minutes from Almeria town and its international airport, the 5* Envia Golf and Spa Hotel is an easy, low-faff base for a few days of golf, especially if you want everything on one site. The 127 bedrooms and suites are smart, modern rooms that feel comfortable after 18 holes, with every room fully air-conditioned and equipped with digital satellite television, high-speed internet, safe deposit box and mini-bar.

For those preferring more space and flexibility, the modern Valle del Sol Apartments within the complex offer an excellent self-catering option with easy access to both La Envia Golf & Country Club and nearby courses. It's a good choice if you're bringing a larger group or prefer to sort your own meals and timings.

The resort's facilities extend well beyond the golf course. A state-of-the-art gymnasium features the latest cardiovascular equipment and free weights, while the outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi provide the perfect spot to unwind after a round. The spa is a real headline here, with plenty of treatment rooms and a proper hydrotherapy circuit that keeps non-golfers happy.

Breakfast timing is sensible for early tee times, and the hotel can arrange club storage if you're playing multiple days. Buggies are available to book in advance, which is worth doing if your group includes anyone who might struggle with the elevation changes. Transfers from the airport are straightforward, and the first tee is only a short walk from the hotel entrance, so you're not wasting time on logistics.

Dining options cater to every mood and occasion. The informal St Andrews buffet restaurant serves throughout the day, while El Mirador offers refined à la carte dining for those wanting something more special. The Muirfield Bar and Café is the go-to spot for a relaxing coffee, cold beer or light snack between rounds.

If you fancy a proper steak night, La Estancia is a popular choice on site, where prime Argentinian beef fills the menu. Café del Arte puts a bit of life into the evenings on DJ nights, ideal if your group likes a drink after the last putt drops.

The hotel was absolutely lovely, and all the amenities were great. Staff were exceptionally friendly and the building was also a beautiful area. There were lovely views of the golf course around, even from the restaurant. One thing that let it down was the location, quite literally nothing to do in the area, one local corner shop selling basic necessities but with little to do. No night life in the area, and a taxi to town can cost upwards of £20 each way. There are no buses into the almeria which is a bit disappointing, the hotel and food was great just slightly let down by the area

The room was adequate after we got it changed to an apartment. Food preparation very poor. The location is not great.

It is quite a grand hotel with huge marble foyers and spacious rooms. It is very well furnished and decorated. Nice little touches like free orange juice and water in the reception foyer. The only let-down was the bed - the bed was very hard; we asked for a "topper" to make it softer but it didn't make any difference so we ended up putting blankets directly onto the mattress. The breakfast buffet was very good and we would go again ( with our own topper !).

The golf course had lovely surrounding views, however the facilities slightly brought my rating down. The driving range has a limit of 150m which can drastically limit the amount of practice you are able to do. Towards the end of our stay the greens were aerated and this unfortunately meant that some of the greens were basically unplayable. Huge bumps on the green with turf pulled up slightly. It would seem that the staff at the pro shop didn’t really know that they were going to be aerated. Half the greens were which meant that some of the holes were completely fine. The course overall was rough around the edges with many dry patches - preferred lies is definitely the way to go. The course was challenging and presented a lot of difficult areas with some long par 4s. Overall the par 3’s weren’t too challenging in terms of their length and neither were the par 5s. A buggy is almost definitely needed in the heat of almeria especially with the amount of hills that are on the back 9. Lovely course, just slightly let down by the greens and the roughness - bunkers were also slightly gravely rather than sandy

The course was not crowded so we got round in under 4 hours on both days. We had electric trolleys for day 1 (Sunday) but on Tuesday we were given a free buggy which was a nice surprise. Day 1 we learnt a lot about the course (ie you cant just take out your driver and slam it on the par 4s and 5s). On the second day we had much better scores and therefore much more enjoyable. It was mid-december but still sunny and warm enough for shorts and T shirts until 5pm when it got chilly. There is not a strict dress code so golf was relaxed. The only real complaint about the course would be the cart paths - they were broken up and pot-holed in many places. We will look forward to playing there again one day.
