Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club

Threatening woodland and intimidating water will pose a challenge, but good strategy and accurate hitting will definitely be rewarded. Those not scoring well need not despair however, as the course's location affords spectacular views over the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland's stunning coastline.

The demanding 4th is the signature hole at Linden Hall, where brave golfers must carry the ball over water to a green that is tightly guarded by trees.

In the midst of Northumberland's idyllic park and woodland sits the Linden Hall hotel, a converted Grade II listed country house. The building itself is truly enchanting, and guests will enjoy a warm and peaceful atmosphere, in addition to extremely comfortable lodging.

The Georgian construction may date back to 1812, but the interior of the hotel is equipped with all the modern amenities required to guarantee relaxing accommodation.

The tranquil atmosphere should allow guests to unwind, while the leisure facilities and dining options complete the full package, and emphasise Linden Hall's quality as a golf break destination.

Vital Beauty at Linden Hall has a range of health and beauty therapy on offer, and specialises in tailoring treatment plans to the individual requirements of both men and women. The therapists are fully trained to deliver expert treatments, all designed to relax, de-stress and refresh. In addition, guests can take advantage of the swimming pool, spa bath, sauna and well-equipped fitness centre.

Dining at the Dobson Restaurant is a memorable experience; with two AA Rosettes, it is one of the best dining rooms in the area, boasting an exquisite menu of classic dishes.

Linden Hall has its very own pub, the Linden Tree, which offers home-cooked meals and a range of quality ales and beers.

Golfer reviews

Just a wee note to say that our group had a fantastic time on our golf break at Linden Hall at the weekend.

The golf course was in fantastic condition, some holes were very impressive, and overall very fair for our standard of golf. The pro at the shop was very helpful and helped as much as he could.

We visited the Linden Tree Pub which was based at the course and found the staff very helpful. The price of a pint was fair and we enjoyed blowing the froth off one or two following our round of golf. This is where we dined in the evening and the meal was included in the golf break package we had bought from Your Golf Travel. The only limitation was a surcharge of £5 if you opted for the steak. Two of our party chose the steak and upon complaining about one of them we were presented with 2 bottles of wine as a peace offering...very impressive indeed.

The hotel was fine. The rooms were a bit dated however everywhere was clean and tidy. There was plenty of choice for breakfast; cereals, meats, fruit and juices and the staff were very helpful at all times.Overall we all agreed that it was a extremely good place to be and very good value for money golf trip.

Our golf trip to Linden Hall went very well so thank you Your Golf Travel.

The hotel was excellent. The rooms were very good; food was of a very high quality and the service was outstanding. The swimming pool and the spa were out of this world...what a place to relax after a long journey! The staff on reception were very friendly as were the staff members all across the resort.

The golf course was quite wet after the recent heavy rain, so that many of the bunkers were flooded and had to be considered as GUR - and buggies were not allowed. Fortunately, we had taken our own trollies with us and although the course was wet it didn’t affect play. The layout is intriguing, interesting and fair. The fairways are quite generous and there is a good collection of picturesque holes that seem to have been built using the natural lay of the land. The par 3s were particularly good.

We thoroughly enjoyed the golf trip and felt it was exceptionally good value.

Our golf break was absolutely fantastic, Linden Hall is a fabulous hotel and venue and the staff were very helpful, welcoming and friendly.

The golf course I would imagine will be breathtaking in summer, however, because of the weather it was rather boggy and had a lot of surface water, despite this we had a lot of fun. There was a pub on site which was very handy and extremely welcome and the price of a pint was only £2.00! It was like travelling back in time with prices like that!

The golf break was great value for money and the evening meal was excellent as well.I will definitely recommend Linden Hall to any friends planning a golf break and I give Your Golf Travel 10 out of 10.

Your Golf Travel’s service was brilliant...we even got a text upon arrival at Linden Hall wishing us well on our golf break! This was a pleasant change from the non-existent customer service you get from most businesses these days and certainly added value to our golf break experience. Thanks a million!

I recently took a group of 12 retired golfers to Northumberland through Your Golf Travel for four days where we played 5 rounds of golf on local courses. This was our second trip to the area and we again stayed at the MacDonald's Linden Hall Country Club.

The Hotel is an excellent base for a group golf holiday. The rooms are spacious and the food excellent. We as a group had breakfast in the Hotel Dining Room and our evening meal in the 'pub complex' which is 50 yards from the Hotel Building. The beer etc is average pub prices and we stayed in the bar in the evenings after our dinner. The atmosphere is excellent and comfortable.

The staff have been excellent on both our visits. The golf courses are extremely cheap when compared to the rest of the U.K. We particularly enjoyed Goswick is near to Berwick-on-Tweed which is comparable to any links course we have played. Being retired we do need buggies and this has never a problem to the travel company who have arranged this for us.

We have used Your Golf Travel on the last six occasions we have been on holiday for groups of up to 20 persons in England, Portugal and Spain. The staff have been excellent and certainly take the weight off the organiser by arranging the hotels, with the type of accommodation required, golf courses to play and start times.

We as a group cannot speak too highly of Your Golf Travel who have always been helpful as well as being extremely competitive in price. My entire group, without exception, are prepared to recommend this company.

We visited Macdonald Linden Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club for our golf break. The golf course is a delightful holiday course, with wonderful views, long walks between holes, and delightful wildlife - the grounds are full of red squirrels, which came up so close we could have touched them. On the Monday, it was millionaire’s golf, as we were the only ones playing.

The main part of the hotel is an eighteenth century mansion; our rooms (Isabel, Jemima and another girl's name, now forgotten) were on the first floor, one with a glimpse of the sea in the far distance, and all with views of the gardens and golf course, and wide open spaces. The staff are all local Northumbrians, exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful - they could not do more to help. An open log fire burns in the large hallway, which also has large Knole sofas and a grand piano. Food is local, and excellent.

But I don't know why I should be telling you all this, as we have been 4 times now, and would prefer to keep this gem to ourselves. One piece of advice, best to go during the week, as Linden Hall also host weddings most weekends - but then I did say it is a gem.

I hesitate to recommend Macdonald Linden Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club very highly, as I would like to keep this Northumberland treasure to myself - but that would be very selfish and deprive others of this hidden joy. The young staff are exceptionally welcoming, professional and friendly - Hollie on reception will greet you with a huge smile and offer to help with your luggage, James will bring fresh milk to your room if you wish; order a pot of tea or coffee and it comes with a gigantic homemade crumbly shortbread.

The bedrooms - we were allocated Evelyn, which had a double aspect overlooking the gardens and part of the golf course, with the sea in the distance, so take your binoculars - are immaculately clean (the housemaids are Northumbrians, just as delightful as the rest of the staff) and very tastefully decorated, even a book left by the bedside and water provided.

Food in the golf package is served in two places: breakfast in the main house dining room, a glorious choice from juices to fresh fish, full English including vegetarian full English, plus their wonderful fresh sun-dried tomato bread - to die for; and dinner in the adjacent more relaxed Linden Hall Pub bistro, perfect for after golf.

On this trip, we didn't play golf; last year it was really good fun, and will be coming back in September for a 5-some. One of our party enjoys the spa treatment instead, and raves about the relaxation. We have swam in the pool, as it is rarely ever used. Overall, this is "millionaire's golf" not crowded, and a true delight. We just love it and the people. Thanks to YGT for another delightful break at Linden Hall.
