Using all the local features, Thomas, to his enormous credit, has managed to build the course to feel mature beyond its few years. Despite its position close to some pretty hilly terrain, the course itself is relatively flat, offering an enjoyable challenge to all those fortunate enough to visit Cardrona for a golfing break.
The testing par-73 track is now a regular stop on the PGA Europro Tour, owing not just to the golf course, but also the fantastic practice facilities on-site.
Situated not far from the centres of either Edinburgh or Glasgow, the hotel at Cardrona is the ideal place for a meeting or conference, with outstanding facilities for delegates.
The 99-bedroom hotel at Cardrona opened officially in 2003, and is the ideal counterpart to Dave Thomas' excellent golf course.
Just east of Peebles, on the banks of the free-flowing River Tweed, the 4* facility provides guests with all the modern features you would expect, including satellite TV, internet connection and top-class furnishings. For some added luxury, opt for one of the upgraded bedrooms, complete with patio access to the golf course.
The state-of-the-art spa and leisure facilities provide guests with the chance to use the 18-metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room, techno gym, beauty treatment rooms, tranquil room and sunshower.

We found the course at Macdonald Cardrona to be a great layout. It was long and the generous fairways were well protected by towering pine trees. So well protected in fact that reloading on the tee was a common occurrence! The course is quite testing so it’s probably not a great one for high handicappers but for 18 and below it is a great track that is very enjoyable to play golf on. The spike bar was excellent and we enjoyed delicious breakfast rolls for a reasonable price. The drinks were a tad on the expensive side in the bar after our round but overall the clubhouse was a nice place to be.
We booked the package that included dinner, bed and breakfast as well as two rounds of golf for just £99 and we thought that was staggeringly good value. The hotel was of a high standard with comfortable rooms and good facilities. The food we had at dinner was delicious and much better than we had expected a complimentary meal to be! The bar prices were on the racy side but a taxi to the local bar was cheap and easy to arrange.
The location is simply stunning and it was lovely to get away to the countryside for a night.
All of our dealings with You Golf Travel were quick and easy and it is clear you offer not only value but a very professional service as well. The agent we spoke with actually recommended the course based on what we wanted and it is obvious that you guys know your stuff! I will not hesitate to book future golf breaks with YGT.We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend golf holiday and would rate it a nine out of ten.
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent golf break at the Macdonald Cardrona hotel and thought we got fantastic value for money. The golf course is of an excellent standard, though quite long for me! Although the fairways are generously wide, the rough is brutal if you stray from the fairway. So, take a good supply of balls!
The hotel was also very good. The rooms were excellent, the staff helpful, and the dinner and breakfast were first rate…top marks!
The golf holiday package deal of one night with dinner, bed and breakfast and two rounds of golf was truly wonderful value and the service from Your Golf Travel was very prompt, accurate and efficient. Many thanks for a wonderful golf trip!
Our golf break to the Macdonald Cardrona Club was excellent in every way and we are already looking forward to booking our next golf trip which we shall certainly be doing through Your Golf Travel.
The golf course was a bit damp underfoot but we can’t hold anyone responsible for the weather can we! The layout of the holes was excellent and all members of the group thought it was a good test of golf.
The Spikes Bar was very welcoming and we had some good laughs in there after our rounds of golf. The only downside was the limited selection of beer they had on draught. All in all the golf facilities are great, especially the course and the practice facilities which were both top class.
The hotel couldn’t be faulted as it was comfortable, clean, well run and the food in the restaurants was delicious. Our favourite part of the hotel was the spa though. It was so great to have a facility like that on a golf break...the perfect place to unwind after a stressful day on the golf course!
Your Golf Travel’s service was outstanding and we have already recommended you to our golfing friends.
Firstly can I congratulate YGT for a superb service - the organisation of any advance outing can be a nightmare because of last minute cancellations and they dealt with each change promptly, efficiently and with the minimum of fuss which resulted in a very successful outing. I would not hesitate to recommend YGT to friends and colleagues at every opportunity and will certainly use them again. The course condition was moderate but that was to be expected given the terrible wet summer which we have all endured but the Borders have been particularly unlucky with floods etc.
The course is well laid out but long at almost 7000 yards from the yellow tees so would not be an easy track for all abilities and the pre-booking of buggies is a must. The double booking of the buggies on the Saturday was the only hiccup as we had a number of older players who struggled walking - but that was the fault of the golf staff at the hotel so no reflection on YGT.
The 19th hole was fine and the price of a pint on a par with other hotel/golf complexes I have used - it tended to be marginally cheaper in the golf bar than in the main hotel bar.
The hotel, as always, was exceptional and the food and service first class - the rooms are 5 star standard and everyone was delighted with the package which represented excellent value for money. The hotel is easy to find being on the main Edinburgh - Galashiels road.
I would rate the whole experience as an 8 and only because of the course condition and the buggy situation - the YGT contribution would certainly rate the maximum 10!!
