Located just north of central Leeds, Moortown Golf Club is a majestic golfing venue, and one that has just been chosen to host the 2009 Brabazon Trophy. The traditional woodland and moorland layout was mapped out by the revered Dr. Alister Mackenzie, the man most famous for devising the course at Augusta National.

The doctor’s influence is plainly evident; his most notable recommendations saw the bunkering deepened and made more severe, and the greens enlarged, with the slopes and contours that are reminiscent of a seaside course.
The designer was so dearly loved that the members elected him vice-president and subsequently captain, and he left a lasting legacy on Moortown. The traditional course demands great creativity, and is a true joy to play during a golf tour of York.
