This East Sussex gem was laid out over Piltdown Common in 1904, and it today it remains a most charming golfing venue. The traditional club is extremely welcoming, and is home to a delightfully old-fashioned golf course.

The golf course itself was revised by European Golf Design in 2003, but instead of wholesale changes, the association merely recommended some tweaking to conditioning. Unusually, Piltdown has no bunkers, but it is by no means toothless; the small and intricate putting greens are extremely tricky, while the banks of purple heather demand accuracy from the tee.
Piltdown is a departure from the style of many modern golf courses, but that only makes it more appealing – be sure to stop off during your golf tour in Sussex.
