Perched on ochre cliffs above the Atlantic, Pine Cliffs Resort commands one of the Algarve's most dramatic stretches of coastline. Below, Falésia Beach runs for miles in both directions, backed by rust-coloured sandstone and framed by umbrella pines. It's consistently rated among the Algarve's best beaches, with a long run of clean sand, dramatic cliff backdrops and the kind of quiet you don't find at the busier resort strips. The resort itself is built around the famous nine-hole Pine Cliffs course, a clifftop layout that somehow feels bigger than it should, mainly because the views and the carries are properly memorable. You'll recognise the photo. It's the tee shot over the gorge at the Devil's Parlour, the par 3 that makes even confident swingers take an extra club and a deep breath. It's a short course, but it's a proper test, and the setting is world-class.

Beyond the golf, Pine Cliffs is a full-service luxury resort with five tennis courts, a comprehensive kids' club, multiple pools and the Estética Spa, which offers everything from massage to hydrotherapy in a setting designed for total relaxation. The beach is accessed via a funicular railway that drops you straight onto the sand, and once you're down there, you'll understand why this stretch of coast is so highly rated.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a five-star Algarve base with an on-site nine-hole course, proper beach access and the option to bolt on bigger names nearby.

Who is it best for?
Couples and families who want serious facilities, smart dining and a resort that keeps golfers and non-golfers equally happy.

Pine Cliffs Golf Course

Pine Cliffs is one of the world's most renowned nine-hole courses. This is largely due to the 6th hole, an awe-inspiring par-3 where golfers tee off from the edge of the cliffs above the shoreline, and are faced with a tee shot over the infamous ‘Devil's Parlour'!

Accommodation at Pine Cliffs Resort

The 215-room hotel is built in traditional Portuguese style, with whitewashed walls, terracotta tiles and Moorish arches that frame views of the Atlantic. Inside, the design is airy and understated, with cool marble floors, high ceilings and a palette of whites and creams that let the ocean views do the talking. All rooms are air-conditioned and decorated in a simple, elegant style that feels more refined than flashy. If you're booking for a special occasion, go for one of the sea-view rooms. The clifftop location means you're looking straight out over the water, and at sunrise or sunset, the light is exceptional.

Facilities are comprehensive. The outdoor pools are large, well-maintained and surrounded by sun loungers and cabanas. The health and fitness club includes a gym, sauna, jacuzzi and a full programme of classes, while the Estética Spa offers a wide range of treatments, from facials to full-body massage. For families, the kids' club is well-equipped and professionally run, giving parents the freedom to play a round or spend an afternoon at the spa without worrying about entertainment.

Dining is a highlight. O Pescador is the standout, widely regarded as one of Portugal's finest seafood restaurants. The menu is built around the day's catch, and the kitchen treats it with respect, simple preparations, quality ingredients and a wine list that leans heavily on Portuguese whites and Douro reds. For cocktails and live music, head to the Portulano bar, or settle into the Mirador Bar at sunset and watch the sky turn pink over the Atlantic.

If you're venturing into Vilamoura, about 15 minutes by taxi, Casa del Forno serves excellent Italian and is a good shout for a change of pace, while Ostra d'Ouro Grill at the marina is the place for grilled fish and shellfish. Both are worth the trip if you fancy a night off-resort, and Vilamoura itself has plenty of bars and restaurants if you want to explore.

This was a very nice 5 star hotel, however the restaurants were disgustingly over priced , so we ate out when we could . Several good quality reasonable restaurants in walking distance We were shocked at checkout to find €15… a day added to account for service charge ! .Maybe we missed this in the blurb , but what was a good deal suddenly bumped the cost up considerably.

A lovely apartment in a resort which both exceeded expectations. Lots to do even if you don’t play golf with plenty of swimming pools, big kids club, easy to get around with free shuttles and easy to order a cab to eat elsewhere. Only negative was the fish restaurant on site (Pescadore) which was a total ripoff. Just outside the grounds is a traditional Portuguese restaurant which was great for fish and a fraction of the price.

My son and I stayed in a 2 bedroom garden suite which overlooked the swimming pool. The accommodation was 5* The restaurants on the large complex looked very good but I feel a 5 minute Uber showed the hotel are pricing themselves out of the market

Have booked this resort for many years through Your Golf Travel who give an excellent service. The hotel is great but we now stay in the townhouses as they are not so expensive.

Unfortunately there were a ridiculous amount of golfers on the course and the pace of play was glacially slow. Over 3 hours for a round of 9 holes was patently out of order and in the end we decided not to do the second nine holes.

This is a really nice short holiday course, the staff were exceptional. Again food overpriced The tees were in a very poor condition, looking very much as needing attention. We unfortunately encountered storm “Claudia” and course was closed for our last round - told we could rearrange, but we were due home . As we had prepaid in our price a credit for next trip would be appreciated and in good faith

The course is fine for a round off the plane and for mixed handicap groups. I think the bar/ restaurant stopped serving at 18.30. Seemed a little early considering the numbers on the course.

On Sunday the course was very busy and we were held up but the weekdays were fine. Handy to just play 9 if wanted. Personally didn’t need one but an improvement would be to have buggies available without the need for a medical note.

We played the 9 hole course 6 times and really enjoyed it. The starting and 2nd 9 joiners made the 1st/10th Tee a bit chaotic but once away the round flowed ok with 9 holes taking about 2 hours. As a hotel/resident course you also have to allow that there will be high or non handicap players. The signature 6th hole is delightful and one for the memory.

Not a course for the serious low handicapper. However very enjoyable holiday golf. The proshop were very helpful and changing tee time was not a problem.Good 19th hole.

Have enjoyed this course for many years. Although only 9 holes it is interesting and not too challenging.
