Southerness Golf Club

Designed by Mackenzie Ross, who also rescued the golf courses at Turnberry, Southerness is perched beautifully on the edge of the Solway Firth, and boasts perfect links turf. Visitors will often feel isolated in this idyllic golfing destination, with only the views across the Firth to the Cumbrian Lake District in sight.

The superb design, in conjunction with the famously slick greens, has resulted in Southerness being a regular in Golf Monthly's top 100 courses in the UK and Ireland since 1990. The signature hole is the dog-leg par-4 12th, where golfers must approach a green located just a few yards from the beach.

The standard of the golf course is emphasised by its award of many top amateur tournaments and should be high on the list of any keen golfer.

We loved the course despite the elements not being in our favour. It rained heavily for all of our round and it was quite windy too making it a very challenging course. We would love to go back. The staff were lovely, even repairing my umbrella holder which malfunctioned during the round!

The course was a gorgeous Links and had there not been a constant 40 mph wind it would have been idyllic! It was in great condition (the few fairways I saw were fabulous!) and the staff at the front desk and in the bar were lovely.

Such a lovely experience, views amazing. Fairways wide enough to not be in the bracken all the time. Wind made it very tricky but it was possible to land and hold the greens. Harder for men than women due to the additional par 5’s. I loved it. Staff and members were friendly and helpful. Food tasty and good value.

Very Good

Fantastic views. Felt very welcome. Staff and members so helpful & friendly. Fairways more generous than Powfoot GC. Golf still a challenge. If you have not played it before get a map of the course because there are little surprises like streams and hidden bunkers around some greens. A really enjoyable day.

Great course in good condition with spectacular views. Well worth a visit. Most par 4's are fairly long and the rough can be tough but that's typical seaside golf. Staff and facilities excellent and all very professional. Highly recommend.
