    Stoke Park

The enchanting courses encircle the club’s monumental stately clubhouse, and have fully stood the test of time more than a century since their inauguration. Shapland Colt is best known for his incredible construction of putting surfaces; in fact, the greens are without doubt the highlight of Stoke Park, showcasing perfectly the designer’s ability for subtlety and purity.

Followers of Colt’s creations, of which there will be many, will know that the 7th hole is widely regarded to be the single finest that he produced, and is believed to be the inspiration for Augusta National’s spine-tingling short 16th. Stoke Park was included in Golf World’s list of the world’s Top 100 Golf Courses, which grants a good insight into the quality of Colt’s layout.

With natural surroundings to rival the remarkable character of the club’s stately home, Stoke Park is a phenomenal golfing destination, and one that is the ideal escape from London.

The resort also offers a grass and all-weather range, pitching and chipping areas and putting green. A new indoor teaching academy studio and outdoor teaching facilities further enhance your experience. Buggy hire available all year round.

    Enjoyable place to play
Upon arriving at Stoke Park, the long winding driveway meanders through the golf course and gives you a real sense of whats in store for the round ahead. With all of the practice facilities and clubhouse amenities near to the first tee many of the group are already limbering up, clearly everyone is eager to get going despite a few sore heads from the night before!

The course opens with a fairly wide par five but there's a few well positioned bunkers that will catch out any nervous drives. Things really get going on the second which is playing straight into the teeth of a three club wind and throughout the front nine there is no let up from the elements as we all try to avoid the trees that line the fairways from the tee. Personally, I found that the back nine was slightly more forgiving but the water that comes into play on the closing stretch and seemed to grab my attention and subsequently my approach shot on the 17th!

Overall, I was very impressed with the condition of the course. The fairways were impeccable for the time of year and you could see that in the summer months when the sloping greens get quick, you could easily rack up a couple of McIlroy-esque four putts. What's more the layout was a real test and it was one of the few courses I've played where you have to use every club in the bag to plot your way around. It's a course you wouldn't get bored of playing and with the prestige associated with the club, it's one I'd love to return to at some point.
