WESTON-SUPER-MARE GOLF CLUB

Weston-super-Mare Golf Club offers a brilliant test of links golf, requiring accurate shots in order to score well. The course is an easy walk, with generous fairways and, as with most true links, the wind often plays a decisive role in making a good score. Thanks to its excellent drainage, the course, situated on the coast at the southern end of the town, is rarely closed due to rain - temporary greens are seldom used unless there's an early morning frost, and trolley bans are a rarity. As a result, the greens are fast and true; the fairways tight and the rough punishing.

The signature hole is the 15th - a 458-yard par-4 - which is said to be modelled on St Andrews Old Course's 17th ‘Road Hole'. It has a blind tee shot and out of bounds down the right, and the green set at an angle to the treacherous bunker at the front corner. It's always satisfying to get a par here! The 15th is also the start of the tough finish as it's followed by the par-3 16th into the prevailing wind, the the dog leg par-5 17th and the tricky par-4 18th with out-of-bounds on the right and back of the green and heavy bunkers to the left, meaning that you are often laying up short in two then hoping for a chip and a putt for your par. Wonderful stuff!

The Clubhouse was officially opened in April 1905 but the main bar and dining areas underwent extensive refurbishment in 2007, which has further enhanced the facilities, providing a choice of either the more relaxed spike bar of the Royal Sands Bar, or the Links Lounge, which adjoins the MacKenzie Dining Room.
