Dalmahoy boasts two excellent golf courses and fantastic golfing facilities, making it one of the most complete golf destinations around the Lothians. Both the Solheim Cup and the Scottish PGA Championships have been held here in recent, to demonstrate the quality on offer.
The East Course has always been the more challenging of Dalmahoy's two courses since its inception in 1927. The James Braid design has in the last couple of years been the subject of a £1 million investment programme, and is now a fearsome test off the back tees. Some new tee boxes on the back nine have stretched inward half to over 4,000 yards, and the course at close to 7,500 is the longest in Scotland. These improvements are aimed at establishing Dalmahoy as a quality tournament venue.
While the West Course is much, shorter, it still offers a good test, and complements its monster brother extremely well. Accuracy is more important here, with tighter fairways and smaller greens, and the course demands a good finish as golfers negotiate the Gogar Burn.
Make sure to eat lots of porridge at breakfast, before tackling Scotland's longest golf course!
The hotel at Dalmahoy is the Marriott brand's flagship venue in Scotland, offering superb accommodation and top-class leisure facilities in a country club environment. Add this to the fact that Edinburgh's legendary city centre is a mere 7 miles away, and it is clear that Dalmahoy is a fantastic destination for a golf break.
The building itself is a converted baronial manor, overlooking the Pentland Hills to the south and hundreds of acres of glorious countryside that would defy the hotel's location next to Scotland's capital city.
The 203 bedrooms and 12 suites are all of an excellent standard, offering guests all the facilities and comforts that are expected from a good 4-star hotel. The Pentland Restaurant serves innovative international cuisine, while comforting classics are available in the Long Weekend Café Bar.
The Marriott Dalmahoy Leisure Club offers hotel guests the chance to utilise cardiovascular equipment free weights and classes, while the Beauty Essentials salon offers health and beauty treatments.
Eat in one of central Edinburgh's top restaurants, including Martin Wishart, La Garrigue, The Tower, or the Witchery.
Drink on bustling George Street for classy bars, or on the Royal Mile for traditional pubs.
Visit Edinburgh's historic castle, perched gloriously above the city centre.
