The East Course has always been the more challenging of Dalmahoy's two courses since its inception in 1927. The James Braid design has in the last couple of years been the subject of a £1 million investment programme, and is now a fearsome test off the back tees. Some new tee boxes on the back nine have stretched inward half to over 4,000 yards, and the course at close to 7,500 is the longest in Scotland. These improvements are aimed at establishing Dalmahoy as a quality tournament venue.
Designed by: James Braid
Opened for play: 1927
Previously hosted: Solheim Cup (1992), Scottish PGA Championship (Several times), Scottish Seniors Open (2006, 2007, 2008)
Blue: 7475 yards, Par 72, SSS 75
White: 7055 yards, Par 73, SSS 74
Yellow: 6814 yards, Par 73, SSS 73
Ladies: 6083 yards, Par 74, SSS 75
While the West Course is much, shorter, it still offers a good test, and complements its monster brother extremely well. Accuracy is more important here, with tighter fairways and smaller greens, and the course demands a good finish as golfers negotiate the Gogar Burn.
Make sure to eat lots of porridge at breakfast, before tackling Scotland's longest golf course!

Opened for play: 1927
White: 5168 yards, Par 68, SSS 66
Yellow: 5051 yards, Par 68, SSS 66
Red: 4777 yards, Par 66, SSS 66
Signature hole-No. 17 (East Course-'The Wee Wrecker'):Par 3, 188 yards (White), SI 17
Dalmahoy's signature hole plays to a well protected green with 5 bunkers, requiring an accurate approach shot. It is to know wonder that the hole gets its name 'The Wee Wrecker' and although not the longest of par 3s, when landing in a bunker the hole can certainly leave its mark on the scorecard!
The hotel at Dalmahoy offers superb accommodation and top-class leisure facilities in a country club environment. Add this to the fact that Edinburgh's legendary city centre is a mere 7 miles away, and it is clear that Dalmahoy is a fantastic destination for a golf break.
The building itself is a converted baronial manor, overlooking the Pentland Hills to the south and hundreds of acres of glorious countryside that would defy the hotel's location next to Scotland's capital city.
The 203 bedrooms and 12 suites are all of an excellent standard, offering guests all the facilities and comforts that are expected from a good 4-star hotel. The Pentland Restaurant serves innovative international cuisine, while comforting classics are available in the Long Weekend Café Bar.
The Dalmahoy Leisure Club offers hotel guests the chance to utilise cardiovascular equipment free weights and classes, while the Beauty Essentials salon offers health and beauty treatments.
Eat in one of central Edinburgh's top restaurants, including Martin Wishart, La Garrigue, The Tower, or the Witchery.
Drink on bustling George Street for classy bars, or on the Royal Mile for traditional pubs.
Visit Edinburgh's historic castle, perched gloriously above the city centre.

The golf trip you organized for me was absolute fantastic myself and my golfing partner had the most wonderfull experience at marriot dalmahoy. I take the opportunity and thanking you for all the work etc you put into arranging and finalizing our break for us " go on guy give yourself a pat on the back" I mean it !! cheers,
Just thought I would drop you a line - our weekend at the Dalmahoy went very well. Golf was good and after a dubious windy and wet start on Saturday, the weather turned out to be glorious. Thanks for your help in setting this up,
Just to thank you for arranging our golf outing to Dalmahoy. Everyone enjoyed it so much we are thinking about making it an annual event. Thanks,
Thanks for your help booking our golf trip to the Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club over the weekend past.
Both of the courses on offer at Dalmahoy are first class and we found the lengthy East Course to be a real test of golf. At 7500 yards it was a long old slog for golfers of out calibre! The condition of the courses was particularly impressive. The price of food and drink in the clubhouse reasonable and we found the staff to be very engaging and helpful.
The hotel was excellent and we soon realised the value for money we got with our golf break package was top notch. The food was nothing to shout about but it was more than adequate and again the staff were friendly and helpful. This goes a long, long way on any golf holiday as it puts you at ease so that you can enjoy the whole experience.
Our overall verdict was a solid eight out of ten. The whole golf trip was top class and but we reserve the nines and tens for the truly special golf holiday destinations!
We thoroughly enjoyed our second golf break to Marriott Dalmahoy with its welcoming staff, delicious food and top class golf courses. The rooms are very well equipped, warm and comfortable. After missing out on the spa on our first Dalmahoy golf break we came prepared to use the spa facilities which was fortunate as the courses were closed due to excessive rain! We were only able to play one round during our stay so the hotel rearranged our booking to allow us play the East course on Monday without extra charge.
The course is immaculate and very, very long! The short holes are also tricky so you really have to play well all the way around the course to score well. Superb views can be expected from all over the course and you can catch a glimpse of both Forth bridges.
Overall it was a lovely golf break and we look forward to returning in the future. As usual dealing with Your Golf Travel was a breeze and again the price of our golf break was hard to beat.
The Marriott Dalmahoy provides very comfortable accommodation and the two golf courses were great so all in all it is a great place to head for a weekend golf break. Staff hospitality and attentiveness is absolutely first class. The twin rooms are clean and spacious with 2 double beds in each which we weren’t expecting. The rest of the hotel’s facilities are great as well and the food served is more than adequate.
The two golf courses offer fantastic variety. The East (6800 yards off the yellow tees) demands length and the shorter West course (5200 yards) demands placement which gives the visiting golfer good variety and a different challenge on each. I think currently both suffer from too many featureless greens. Despite this criticism our party of 10 had a fantastic time and we would certainly go back again!
In terms of the booking experience, Your Golf Travel was faultless throughout. I had to make several changes to dates and party size but this was dealt with extremely politely and efficiently. Communication was clear and they carried an accurate record of all discussions and correspondence. Top marks all round!
We will be back in touch to book our next golf trip!
Just wanted to say what a fabulous time we had on our golf break at Dalmahoy!
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when we came off the course dripping wet! The rooms in the hotel were lovely and the food in the Bistro was exceptional.
The West Course is not overly long but remains tricky with lovely views of Edinburgh in the distance. The East Course on the other hand is a monster and all I can say is that I was relieved not to be playing it from the back tees! Both golf courses offer something totally different and all in all Dalmahoy is ideal for a weekend golf break for precisely this reason.
Thanks for all your help Your Golf Travel, I’ve recommended you to everyone I speak to and will continue to do so. Number 1 for golf holidays!
Our golf break took place at the Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club which has two golf courses the East Course and the West Course. Firstly the East course, the layout was excellent, hard but fair. Given the wet weather that preceded our visit we were just happy to play, however some parts of the course were very wet. The East course is good for all abilities; however given the length of course it meant high handicappers struggled. But it is reasonably forgiving apart from holes 13 and 14, which are very tough!
Now on to the West course, again the layout was very enjoyable with some excellent holes which wouldn’t have been out of place on the championship East course. Again given the wet weather, some areas of the course were very wet, however I think the course was not as badly affected by the weather as the East course, and the greens were in better condition. The West course definitely suits all golfers, some short par 4s to start, but some great holes and more playable generally to high handicappers than East.
The Clubhouse/19th hole was excellent, with reasonable bar prices and a nice atmosphere it was a relaxing and fun environment to unwind after a long day of golf. The hotel room and food were superb, nice public rooms, good leisure centre and pool, great stay.
My overall verdict is that it is the best hotel/golf holiday deal I have been on since I started playing the games, in terms of the value for money, quality of courses, hotel and food. I have previously stayed at Forest Pines, Oulton Hall, Ramside Hall, Linden Hall, Slaley Hall, Aldwark Manor and Shrigley Hall. Overall I would say 9/10 it was only a pity that it wasn’t drier to see the courses in peak condition.
The service that I received during the whole process of my golf break was excellent and speedy from Your Golf Travel, particularly liked flexibility with deposit after we cancelled the Turnberry stay. Welcome and thank You SMS messages were a nice touch also.
I would definitely recommend YGT to a friend and I am already looking at venues in UK and Europe for 2013 trips.
