Golf de Chantilly is one of Europe's most prestigious clubs and, honestly, French golf doesn't come much better. Set in the Chantilly forest around 40 kilometres north of Paris, it's been a serious name on the continent since 1909 and it's a cracking "treat round" if you're in the area and your game is in decent shape. The estate offers two courses, both routed through mature woodland, and while access is tightly controlled it's absolutely worth the effort if you can meet the requirements.
Visitor access is limited. Non-members can usually play Monday to Wednesday and Friday only, so you'll want to plan ahead. Buggies are not available, so be ready for a walk. The dress code is strict and you'll need a handicap certificate, as you'd expect at a members' club of this calibre. If you're anything like me, you'll enjoy the old-school feel of the place and the chance to walk a proper championship layout at your own pace.
Who is this for?
Skilled golfers visiting the Paris region who want to play one of Europe's finest courses in a traditional, exclusive setting. It's ideal for low-handicappers, golf societies and groups who appreciate classic design and the chance to tick off a genuine continental heavyweight.
Who is it best for?
Single-figure golfers and serious enthusiasts who value heritage and course pedigree. If you're happy to walk, meet the handicap requirements and plan around limited access days, Chantilly is an unforgettable experience.

Regarded by many as one of Europe's very best, the Vinieuil Course is a demanding layout formulated by the esteemed Tom Simpson in 1909. Reminiscent of the great woodland and heathland courses of southern England, the Vinieuil has a discernible British accent, and is a genuine championship test having hosted the French Open on multiple occasions.
Just shy of 7,000 yards at its peak, the magnificent layout is a remarkable golfing experience that is not to be missed by any serious golfer.
The Vinieuil Course at Golf de Chantilly is ranked as one of the best courses in France
Though it is Chantilly's second course, there is little to mark the Longères as inferior to its better established neighbour. Also close to 7,000 yards, the par-73 proposition demands good ball striking but is more forgiving than the celebrated Vinieuil Course.
