SICILY

For 3,000 years, Sicily has been invaded or occupied by dozens of different forces, and its resultant cultural diversity makes it fascinating to visit. The landscape is dominated on the east coast by Mount Etna, which towers at 3,350 metres, and on the northern coast by the capital city of Palermo, while the surroundings are characterised by sstunning hills and the famous Sicilian citrus groves. To boot, the island has some terrific golf, with two lovely resorts; our favourite are Le Madonie, which will add a 5* hotel in 2008, and the charming Il Picchio Resort. Bursting with character, Sicily is both a captivating holiday destination and an interesting golfing venue, which is why it appeals to so many for a golf holiday.
