Located adjacent to the Heritage Golf and Spa Resort, the Golf du Chateau is the brainchild of golf architect Peter Matkovitch, and is wedged in a dramatic position between the mountains and the picture perfect coastline.
The designer's remit was to create a course that matched the spectacular local landscape, and he has succeeded in magnificent fashion. Wound around the imposing Chateau De Bel Ombre and its exotic gardens, the Golf du Chateau is among the south coast's most beautiful, affording views not only of the sea, but also the Black River Gorges nature reserve, which borders many of the holes.
From the championship tee markers, the course can be extended to a daunting 7,116 yards, and requires a buggy, but there are tees suitable for golfers of all abilities, as befits a top class golf and leisure resort. Great banks of rough and expanses of water are among the hazards that encroach on Golf du Chateau, which is an integral part of a luxury golf escape to Mauritius' southern shore.

Leading directly onto the immaculate white sand of Mauritius' southern fringe, the Heritage Golf Resort and Spa is a truly idyllic place to escape on a luxury golf holiday.
The Seven Colours Spa complex is among the largest and most comprehensive on the island, where the 20 treatment rooms and 7 massage rooms offer the finest health and beauty therapy. A rub down on the beach comes highly recommended, while the complex is bedecked in tropical plants and the island's most beautiful flowers. The resort has 4 swimming pools, 2 tennis courts and a beach volleyball court, while the coastal water are great for kayaking, waterskiing, snorkeling and sailing. The billiards room is the place to relax, while the fitness centre is perfect for working up a sweat.
Mauritius is an idyllic island paradise, whose fringes are etched with unspoiled white sand and striking blue azure waters. The island is a mecca for water sports lovers, while the amazing submarine life is best viewed from either a glass-bottom boat, or through goggles whilst snorkeling. The cuisine is naturally based heavily on the jaw-dropping seafood, which is cooked following recipes influenced by Creole, European, Indian and Chinese cuisine. Relaxing is top of the bill in Mauritius, but if you are travelling with children, be sure to schedule a trip to the La Vanille Crocodile Park and Waterpark Leisure Village.
If the championship course is too tough, then head to the resort's nine-hole par-3 course, which is perfect for beginners and youngsters.
The Lion's Lounge is a classy jazz and cigar bar, while the views of the lagoon from the Blue Drift Bar are priceless.
Gastronomy is to the fore at the 5* Heritage; the highlight is undoubtedly La Compagnie des Comptoirs, a fine dining room managed by Jacques and Laurent Pourcel, a family culinary partnership who have been featured by the Michelin Guide since 1998.
