Palmerstown House Estate sits in 900 acres of County Kildare parkland, where Christy O'Connor Jnr has routed a course that uses the natural roll of the land rather than fighting it. Ancient trees frame fairways that bend around the contours and the signature island green, one of the few in Ireland, gives you a proper test of nerve when the wind picks up off the surrounding water.
O'Connor Jnr designed holes that ask you to shape shots around mature woodland, carry hazards at the right angle and read greens that break more subtly than they first appear. It's not a course that beats you up with length, it asks you to think your way around, plot angles and commit to the shot in hand. The parkland setting means the turf can play pleasantly firm in drier spells, so you often get proper run on your drives and the chance to bump approach shots onto greens rather than flying everything in high.
The estate itself feels removed from the everyday. You're surrounded by rolling countryside, with views that stretch across Kildare's patchwork fields and hedgerows. After your round, the clubhouse offers a proper sit-down and the chance to replay holes over a drink. If you're planning an Ireland golf break around Dublin and Kildare, Palmerstown is a smart pick for a quieter, strategic round in a proper estate setting.
Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a genuine parkland test in the Irish countryside, with a course that rewards strategy over brute force and a setting that feels a world away from busier resort tracks.
Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who enjoy reading a course, shaping shots around trees and plotting their way through a layout that asks questions without resorting to gimmicks. Also suits confident improvers and groups wanting a quieter, more traditional Irish golf experience away from the big-name links venues.

The 7,400 yard result is worthy and more, and has garnered much praise in its short existence. While Palmerstown House is already the headquarters of the Irish PGA, the vision for the future is to host an Irish or European Open on the European Tour.
The golf course itself is not quintessentially Irish, but it is certainly impressive; from the shamrock-shaped bunkers to the colossal water hazards, The PGA National may be more at home on the opposite side of the Atlantic, but its impeccable conditioning is sure to charm even the most traditional of golfing purists.
As a new challenger to the K Club, Druid's Glen and Carton House, the Irish HQ is a worthy contender and is well worth considering for your next golf adventure around the Dublin area of the Emerald Isle.

In my view too much water and a very long course. Using hybrid a lot and when confidence is low a very tough course. However other players loved it.
