San Lorenzo Golf Course

The fortunate creator was blessed with an unimaginably beautiful blank canvas as San Lorenzo sits in the Ria Formosa nature reserve, a vast park which is home to terrific plant and wildlife species. There are many different styles of golf at San Lorenzo, as you wind through the terrific pines, lakes, and private villas, while the course also works its way out to the coastline.

There are countless spectacular holes, like the sixth, a par-4 towards the ocean which gets the juices flowing, before the course builds up to a magnificent crescendo with the closing stretch; the 17th is a daunting test, while the closing hole is a the classic ‘risk/reward' hole, where the intrepid golfer must strike a good approach shot to reach the spectacular semi-island green.

San Lorenzo's considerable reputation is not for nothing - this terrific course will not disappoint should you visit during your next golf holiday in the Algarve.

The easiest way to experience the 7-time Portuguese Open host is to stay at the Dona Filipa Hotel.

Having played San Lorenzo a number of times it remains one of my favourite courses. Currently with significant construction work taking place to rebuild the clubhouse this has in some ways been detrimental to the tidiness and previously pristine condition of the course . Whilst the greens and fairways are good the compact and in some places scarcity of sand in the bunkers makes greenside shots almost impossible . I am sure however that once the new clubhouse is finished the course will also recover its mojo .

Great course interesting holes as long as you can strike the ball straight, Great views to the sea and dunes. This was a great course to play and every one enjoyed the variety of the holes to test our skills? We were aware that the clubhouse was being rebuilt and so the facilities are very limited. Portacabins for a bar with outside seating only and limited toilets. The only surprise was the state of the buggy tracks, all laid with the traditional Portugal stone. However drive with caution as many stones had lifted or dropped or missing. Dont let that put you off and I guess in the next few years due to the area its in this will all be sorted.

Great layout but Course not the same standard as 5 years ago. Cart paths very uneven and difficult to negotiate. Clubhouse being rebuild following fire so limited facilities. Staff very helpful. Just needs some TLC

As most people know when booking there is a total clubhouse rebuild so it’s a portacabin on arrival but staff are fantastic ,very helpful a few complementaries..Tough course so play somewhere easier before you come here to knock the rust off
