Carnoustie Links is one of world golf's most famous venues. Many avid players make the journey to Angus to tread the turf that is a regular on the Open Championship rota.
Championship Course
The Championship is one of the most feared tournament courses in the world; 1999 Open winner Paul Lawrie emerged victorious from what was effectively a war of attrition, after Jean Van De Velde's hopes drowned in the Barry Burn. The course has been lengthened for the 2007 tournament to add to the already abundant history, which includes Ben Hogan's famous performance in 1953.
Burnside Course
The Burnside Course is often overshadowed by its more illustrious neighbour, but it is full of character and represents a good test of golf from the back tees. Particular highlights are the short holes, including the tricky 5th and 14th.
Buddon Course
The third course on the links is the Buddon, which has undergone some significant improvements since Peter Aliss and Dave Thomas' original 1979 design. Now much tougher, especially around the turn, the Buddon is a good challenge for any golfer.
The Carnoustie Hotel is ideally situated adjacent to the first tee on the Championship Course, and directly behind the 18th green, affording magnificent views across the links towards the Angus coastline. All of the rooms in this 4* hotel are well-fitted, in a simple and modern fashion. After a tough day on the links, the proximity and comfort of the hotel are more than welcome.
The golf course is the obvious star of Carnoustie, but the hotel is just the accompaniment required.
First class leisure facilities, including a large swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and gym provide guests with the perfect way to refresh themselves. Extensive health and beauty treatments are also available.
The Angus countryside is littered with points of cultural interest. Of particular note to many will be the imposing Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the late Queen Elsizabeth and the Queen Mother.
Be bold at the signature 14th hole on the Championship; fire your second shot over the famous ‘Spectacles' bunkers.
Eat in the formal Dalhousie Restaurant for a fusion of Mediterranean and Scottish cuisine.
Relax with a beer in Calder's Bar.
