We had a fantastic golf break to the Lisbon coast at Cascais for the third year in succession and would like to thank Your Golf Travel for the excellent organisation and great value for money we got.
Having travelled as a group of 12-16 for the last 20 years, I can honestly say on behalf of all our group that the Lisbon Coast is our favourite destination for a golf holiday on all counts. We have previously toured abroad at Marbella (3 times) and Majorca (3 times) as well as going on numerous UK golf breaks.
The courses in this region are fabulous; Estoril, Penha Longa and Quinta Da Marinha were all in fantastic condition and were perfectly suited to our mixed abilities. Our handicaps range from +3 to 16 and the courses are set up in such a way that the winner could come from anyone in our range of handicaps.
The clubhouses at all of the golf clubs are extremely welcoming although we recommend you order food at Estoril before playing as they do tend to close the kitchen early. We did this last year and a table was set up in the outdoor garden area where we had a fantastic meal with copious amounts of wine with full waiter service at reasonable prices.
The clubhouse at Penha Longa is without doubt my favourite of anywhere I have played. The exterior building is an old established one but with an extremely retro and cool interior- it has to be experienced. One of our guys last year was so impressed that he took his wife for a short break a fortnight after we returned as he was determined that she should experience the class of the place!
The Vila Gale Cascais is an excellent 4 star Hotel in an ideal location; Cascais is only a 15 minute stroll away. It really is a quality 4 star Hotel with all the facilities needed for our type of golf vacation. The pool area is fantastic and there are both indoor and outdoor pools on offer. The staff are extremely attentive and can’t do enough for you.
The town of Cascais offers everything- plenty of lively bars- fabulous restaurants with some of the best food we've experienced in the last 10 years. Nearby Estoril is a 5 minute taxi drive away. Here the famous Estoril Casino is worth a visit on a night out on the town.
Thanks again for arranging our trip so efficiently; it was unbelievable value this year. As we have done Cascais 3 years in a row we will be looking for a change of venue next year. We are not sure Cascais can be beaten but we think Your Golf Travel will be able to come up with something just as special!
Look forward to hearing from you with any ideas for next year.
This trip was for 12 golfers of varying experience levels, so courses were selected accordinglyWe played:-
Estoril - A nice opening day course with 13-14 very good holes, the starting few and ending two are separated by the motorway that obviously went through the course sometime ago. The holes after crossing the bridge are the better ones.
Aroeira II - A favourite of mine this one. Tall pine trees line each fairway, the fairways are soft to walk on, the greens are mostly shaded so will take a ball fired in from almost any distance.Water comes into play on several holes. A great course!
Penha Longa - A short par 72 course, not difficult in calm conditions, but play it when the wind is blowing and you'll soon see why it is a well considered course by golfers visiting this area. A must play in my opinion.
Quinta da Marinha - We last played this course four years ago and since then they have built a new clubhouse. This is very posh and modern. A good last day course as it is mostly open without too much trouble.
We stayed in Cascais at the Villa Gale. This is an excellent mid-range hotel, very comfortable rooms with good facilities.
Location is top notch, easy to find at the end of the motorway, well signpostedThe town itself is an excellent place to base yourself with multiple bars and restaurants around the square, food is generally very good and fairly priced.
As always service from YGT is excellent, always available to little tweaks and changes
