With the 2015 Open Championship set to begin in little over a month away, it is probably the right time to plan your trip to golf’s oldest major. Due to take place at the oldest and most iconic course in golf, Old Course St Andrews is a fitting venue. Here, 19th hole bring you all the information you need if you’re attending The Open at St Andrews.
When does The Open Championship start?
The Open Championship will take place between the 12-19 July. The Sunday 12 July until Wednesday 15 July, will be practice rounds before the tournament commences on Thursday 16 July until Sunday 19 July.
Gates open at 9:00am on 12 July, 7:00am Monday – Wednesday, 6:00am Thursday – Friday and 7:00am Saturday & Sunday.
Where can I buy tickets for the Open Championship?
Tickets are available on the official website, where the prices range from £15 on Sunday’s practice round to £80 when the tournament begins. Concessions (16-21) are also cheaper ranging from £5-£30. Juniors under the age of 16 can enter for free.
You can also buy tickets on the door although we recommend to buy them beforehand as the queues can be very long.

Where can I park?
Given the high number of spectators attending The Open, the surrounding road network is expected to be busy. We highly recommend to turn off sat-navs and use the designated routes which will be clearly signed by the AA.
There is daily public parking available from £10.00 from Sunday 12 to Tuesday 14 and £15.00 from Wednesday 15 to Sunday 19. Only cash is accepted on the day. Weekly car park passes are available for £60.00 but these can only be bought in advance here TheOpen.com
Designated routes will lead to Park & Ride facilities operating from some Public Car Parks.
How else can I get to Old Course, St Andrews without a car?
Travelling by rail: You can buy an all-inclusive travel ticket which offers convenience. With this ticket you can travel from any train station in Scotland to Leuchars station (the closest to St Andrews.) From there, you can catch the coach straight to the venue for a one off fare.
Travelling by bike: A designated bicycle park will be located near the course. Follow the road signage to purple car parks and then follow the appropriate signage.
What is the par and course yardage on the Old Course at St Andrews?
The par for the course is 72. They’re 14 par-4s, two par-5s and two par-3s.
The course measures at 7,305 yards or 6,680 metres.
What is the course record on the Old Course, St Andrews?
Five different golfers share the Old Course record with a 62. They are Victor Dubuisson, George Coetzee (2012), Paul Casey (2013), Tommy Fleetwood and Louis Oosthuizen (2014).

The Open is held at St Andrews every five years and it will be the 29th time it has played host to the inaugural tournament. In 2010, Louis Oosthuizen destroyed the field by seven strokes and in 2005, Tiger Woods was victorious over Colin Montgomerie whilst the former world No.1 also won it in 2005.
