Electronic Arts Inc are to launch the next instalment of their Tiger Woods golf game in June. Despite the world number one’s ongoing off-course problems, EA have stood behind their man.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, as well as the iPhone.

EA have also revealed a free preview open beta will start today for Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, a browser-based golf game that will be available through a multi-tiered later this year. The game runs entirely in the player’s web browser with no requirements for installation or additional peripherals.

Some of the features of the game include Facebook Connect which allows players of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online who hold Facebook profiles to invite friends and thus gain in-game experience. Achievements can also be published to players’ profile walls.

In addition players can build and progress a career, starting out as a beginner and progressing through to golf legend by earning experience points throughout the game.

For an extra challenge, a target score will be published for every player which will award additional experience points if the player manages to shoot under the target score.

There will also be fans, favourites and sponsorships which allows the player to gather fans within the game. The more fans the player gains the more points they are awarded. In-game money can also be earned by sponsoring fans to make their own target scores, with money earned being available to spend in the Pro Shop on upgraded equipment and customisations.

I’ve played far too much of this game already! I’m a far better golfer on the computer than the course!
