The recent happenings surrounding Tiger Woods and his inappropriate actions have caused a firestorm of controversy in the golf world. Woods has been the biggest name in sports for years and now he has joined the ranks of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and others as internet sensations and celebrity gossip targets. Woods admission of infidelity has dragged the golf into a world it rarely visits: a world of tabloid headlines and gossip magazines. John Daly is usually the player that stirs the most controversy in golfing circles. Daly’s troubles and trials have almost become a constant in golf. It always seems Daly comes up with new and different ways to make headlines and his less than perfect behavior makes plenty of headlines. Woods and his current situation make John Daly’s recent issues look tame.
It appeared that Tiger Woods had it all and more if that is possible. He is the best golfer in the world. He has accumulated wealth beyond comprehension. He had a devoted wife and two healthy children. Woods took great pains to build an image of determined perfection and excellence in everything he did. Woods was in a position to live his life in any way he pleased and that was where he got into trouble.
When you are the best in the world and revered by everyone, you get a free pass for everything you do. For years Tiger’s behavior on the course has included cursing, club tossing and plenty of bad behavior. Many say that if another player acted the way Tiger does on the course he would be fined and chastised. Tiger however, gets a free pass for poor behavior. That’s what happens when you are the biggest draw in sports. That’s what happens when you make millions of dollars for the tours, the players and the sponsors. There is no accountability. As long as the money keep coming in everything is fine. Then this happens.
Tiger has done irreparable harm to his family and will have to take extraordinary measures to try and rebuild his family life. His wife and family have been dragged into his world of immorality and deceit and Tiger is faced with the herculean task of rebuilding his family life.
There aren’t many winners here and Tiger has to shoulder the blame. Sure, the PGA Tour has a black eye and it is open season on Tiger, as it should be when you do something as inexcusable as this. But, this will pass believe it or not. In a few months Tiger will be back winning majors again and most fans will not care about his past. The tour will be fine and Tiger’s sponsors will be glad he is their man. However, Elin Woods will have to live with a man that betrayed her and lied to her. It will be an extremely difficult task for Elin to get past this betrayal, no matter what Tiger promises her. She is the one that bears the most hardship for Tiger’s mistakes and it is up to her to try and live her live the best way she can.
