A strip of heathland separating the mainland from the tidal Alde estuary is the basis for the terrific Aldeburgh golf club. Founded in 1884, the course was designed by John Thompson and Willie Fernie, although their original composition was revised a few years later by J.H. Taylor and Willie Park Jnr.

Aldeburgh is just a few minutes from James Braid's excellent course at Thorpeness, which can combine to form a cracking Suffolk tour. Aldeburgh itself is a stunning golfing location, particularly in the months of May and June when the yellow gorse is in full bloom.
One constant at Aldeburgh is the wind; when added to the narrow fairways, there are few courses that place such an emphasis on accurate driving. Visitors to Aldeburgh are also overwhelmed by the quality of the putting surfaces, which are among the best in England's east. A jewel in the crown of Suffolk, Aldeburgh is a delightful track and fully deserves its place among the UK's elite.
