OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
16 - 19 July, 2009, Turnberry.
Turnberry will play host the 2009 Open Championship and Your Golf Travel.com is offering exclusive hospitality and ticket packages to the event. The Open was last held at Turnberry in 1994 when Nick Price sank a 50ft putt on the 17th green to leave him needing just a par on the last to win.
The 138th Open Golf Championship will run from 16th-19th July and will be the event's fourth visit to the Ayrshire gem. The challenging Ailsa course was the venue in 1977 for the famous ‘Duel in the Sun’. In brilliant sunshine, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson went head-to-head and blow-for blow over the final two days, with Watson eventually finishing a shot clear of his rival – and 11 shots ahead of the rest of the field. After his good performance in the first three rounds of the 2008 Championship can Greg Norman defy the elements and re-create the form of 1986 to become the oldest player to win the Claret Jug or will Padraig Harrington triumph once more to make it three in a row.
If 2009's Open has anywhere near the excitement as 2008, or the weather of 1986, then it will be a fantastic sporting occasion.
