SAINT-MALO HOTEL, GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
Location: Domaine de Saint Yvieux, Le Tronchet, 16 miles SE of Saint-Malo, 34 miles North of RennesL'Etang is Saint-Malo's championship course, and is a lovely par-72 layout devised by Hubert Chesnau. Carved from the famously beautiful Breton countryside, the 6,492 yard course has an American feel, and has benefited greatly from significant work to improve both design and condition.
The fairways are relatively forgiving, but there are considerable hazards in the shape of water, bunkers and mature trees, and the great variety of Saint-Malo's premier course has made it a firm favourite with golfing visitors to Brittany.
Saint-Malo also boasts a nine hole course called Les Chênes, which is carved through the impressive woodland that dominated the landscape. With some well-designed holes, Les Chênes is maintained to the same high standards as Saint-Malo's premier attraction, and is perfect for beginners and the younger generation.
The comfortable hotel at Saint-Malo has become popular with golfing visitors thanks to the warm welcome that all receive, in conjunction with the good 3* accommodation.
The 29 guest bedrooms are located within the 19th century manor house, and benefit from views over the charming estate. Ideally situated for visiting golfers, Saint-Malo's highly regarded hostel is sure to provide total comfort for your next golf holiday in Brittany.
Just a short drive away, the walled city of Saint-Malo is a popular tourist attraction. The town was once divided from the mainland, but is now inseparably attached. Notable attractions include the cathedral of St. Vincent and the chateau of Saint-Malo, but the city walls are surely the most impressive feature; rising up from the mouth of the Rance River, the concrete structure is a wonderfully imposing structure. Saint-Malo also has one of Europe's highest concentrations of seafood restaurants, with oysters being a particular highlight. The area's other main draw is Mont Saint-Michel, an island city that rises from the waves; the site is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is adorned with an ancient monastery at its summit.
The hotel's chef is famed for his excellent interpretation of local culinary classics, while the lakeside bar is the place to enjoy a well-deserved holiday drink.
