Golf buggies. They often divide opinion. On the one hand you have the brave souls who steadfastly refuse to take one because “buggies are for old men” and on the other you have the golfer whose inner 10 year old can’t think of anything better than whizzing around the fairways. Of course, here in the UK, you also have to consider that often buggies are restricted to cart paths due to damp conditions which can make taking a buggy as tiring as walking the course in the first place!

While golfers across the land may not be able to agree on the merits of existing buggies I would hazard a guess that every single one of them would jump at the chance to enjoy a round with the aid of Bubba Watson’s new golf buggy!

Last year’s Masters Champion has seemingly taken a break from recording with the PGA Tour’s non-official boy band, The Golf Boys and has turned his off course attention to golf cart engineering. So what do you get when you let the class clown of the PGA Tour loose with designs for a new golf cart? A hover craft of course!

Check out Bubba’s video for the new BW1 Hovercart.

Yes that’s right…the craziest mode of transport ever- the hovercraft, has now been spliced with your run of the mill golf cart to form the BW1 Hovercart. As Watson explains, the golf cart played a part in him getting into golf. “That’s how I got started, driving a golf cart and then golf got in the way.”

You may think this is just a gimmick – like many of the crazy golf carts we told you about last summer – or a way of another millionaire golfer to spend some of their cash but when you read between the lines the BW1 might actually make some sense as a realistic replacement for existing golf carts.

“Golf carts have always looked the same. You have to stay 30 yards from the green, stay on the cart path when it’s raining, but let’s have fun. Let’s go through the water hazard, come off the other side right by the green, putt your ball in the hole and then you can drive back across the water hazard. I mean, who doesn’t want to do that?” said the big hitting lefty.

With a “foot print pressure” that is 30 times less than that of a human foot, maybe the hovercart is not such a crazy idea. You could even argue that the BW1 will help maintain the golf course! Whether or not the hovercart makes it to a golf course near you in the not too distant future remains to be seen but one thing is for sure…I want one!
