Quinta do Lago

Quinta do Lago is a famous name in Portuguese golf, having been awarded many prestigious professional and amateur events

The three at Quinta do Lago come in the form of the South, North and Laranjal Courses. Quinta do Lago is synonymous with the game of golf, having been awarded may prestigious professional and amateur events on all three of the courses. The South Course, which stretches to 7,095 yards, has hosted the Portuguese Open on no less than eight occasions. The latest addition to the portfolio has been Quinta do Lago has been the Laranjal Course. The par-72 layout consists of well protected greens that offer a superb all year surface and challenging narrow fairways. The beautiful location is enhanced by the stunning features of the course, umbrella pines, cork oaks, orange trees and five lakes which form part of the water recycling system.

Quinta do Lago is also able to boast a third – The North Course, the shortest of the three, measuring just 6,561 yards, but don’t take it for granted as there are a number of difficult dog-leg holes and long par-5s which demand three accurate shots. The South Course at Quinta do Lago was also the scene for Colin Montgomerie’s first ever professional title – so why not follow in his footsteps…

Vale do Lobo

The prestigious Vale do Lobo estate is home to two outstanding golf courses, whose delightful blend of links and parkland styles make it one of the most beautiful and dramatic golfing destinations, not only in the Algarve but in the whole of Europe.

Whilst staying at the Monte da Quinta Club you will also have access to the two golf courses at Vale do Lobo, the Royal and the Ocean. The Royal is a spectacular cliff-top course, whose iconic 16th hole has, over the years, become one of the most photographed holes in Europe. The Ocean Course on the other hand differs vastly to its older brother, whilst the narrow Royal demands accuracy above all else, the Ocean demands golfers to use a higher level of creativity to score low round this tricky track.

Originally from the Home of Golf, I have been lucky enough to hack my way round some of the finest courses Scotland has to offer. Previous employers include the world famous Gleneagles Hotel - where I once recommended a half pint of local lager to Gary Player.
