The Snowman Challenge

By February 3, 2011December 3rd, 2014No Comments

December saw much of the UK blanketed in snow, putting a rather large spanner in the works for anyone hoping to get out on the course.

But while the bad weather didn’t stop members of the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club from getting a round of golf in, it also didn’t stop the staff of Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, Shropshire, who decided to adopt a spot of target golf to keep their swings in shape.

The staff members, which included club professional Tim Hall and a team of four greenkeepers, assembled a snowman 80 yards away from the snow-covered first tee, and set out to knock the head off poor Mr Frosty with a golf ball.

He looked safe enough while the greenkeepers took their respective shots, but club pro Hill showed how it was done with a ‘skull-splitting’ drive.

The ‘Snowman Challenge’ was captured on video and posted to YouTube, where it has attracted more than 2000 hits.

“When the snow came down we realised we weren’t going to get many golfers out on the course, so we held this little competition for a bit of fun.” said the course’s media manager, Tom Pain.

How did you keep your game in shape during the recent bad weather?
