From fresh faced beginners to seasoned veterans the game of golf is a game enjoyed and loved by millions of people across the globe. Recently Your Golf Travel has got together with some big hitters from the golfing world to pick their brains about the courses they love, great golfing moments from the professional game and why they love the game. We all love to talk about the game in the 19th hole after a day on the fairways and here is what leading professionals in the golf industry had to say:

How often do you get to play golf these days?
The majority of my golf happens between April and October, unless I happen to be overseas somewhere warm in the winter months!
What inspired you to take up the sport?
Watching The Open as a kid was a real inspiration, plus the thrill of seeing the ball fizz off the face of a club for the first time
Where is your home club and why do you enjoy playing there?
Much of my golf is played on the Surrey/Hampshire borders close to where I live. Old Thorns and Liphook feature heavily but my other summer interests – cricket and cycling – leave little time for membership!
What is the best golf course you have ever played?
With 20 years experience in golf tourism, I’m privileged to have played golf all over the world. However, for quality of design, conditioning and pure ambience it would have to be Les Bordes in France. It’s very difficult to get on there now but, should you be so lucky, take a camera and plenty of balls!!!
What is your favourite moment from golf’s rich history?
It has to be Tiger’s chip-in at the 16th in the 2005 Masters. I’m not sure the TV drama of that moment could ever be repeated at a golf event!
Tiger Woods at the 2005 Masters
Who would complete your dream fourball?
My brothers Ian, Neil and Jonathan. We don’t play together often but we are all at a similar level and the competition is always fierce and the banter memorable!
If you had the keys to a private jet and could choose to play any golf course in the world; where would you go?
Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand
If you worked for Your Golf Travel, where would you recommend for people to go for a golf holiday?
For good value, quality courses and sunshine it would be the Lisbon region of Portugal or – if travelling with the family – La Manga in Spain.
What is the best golf related advice you have ever received?
To have one, clear thought when you’re standing over the ball.
What piece of golfing equipment or golfing gadget could you not live without?
My Kikkor golf shoes. Wearing them is akin to playing golf in your slippers – and they look good too!
What’s the funniest thing you have witnessed on a golf course?
An ex-work colleague falling asleep standing up over his ball on the first tee at La Manga. The tee-time was early and he’d overindulged the previous night. There were quite a few people on the tee and it took us about 20 seconds to realise he was actually asleep before someone threw a bottle of water over him. He then proceeded to nail his drive down the middle!

Enjoyed the story about the colleague falling asleep over his golf ball – not sure which is more impressive, the fact he managed to drift off mid shot or the fact that he woke up and immediately took a great shot. A new technique, perhaps?
