Andy Powell gets golf buggy driving ban

By March 3, 2010December 3rd, 20142 Comments

The ValeWelsh rugby star Andy Powell was on the receiving end of a driving ban following his Buggygate drama while staying at the Vale Golf Resort (pictured left) in South Wales. Although his actions have resulted in a 15 month driving ban as well as a £1000 fine for the Welsh number 8, he has conducted himself since the incident very well, acknowledging his error and apologising for his actions.
He was quoted through his lawyer, Conrad Gadd, as saying “He is regretful that any young boy who may see him as a hero might think his behaviour is acceptable and he wants to make it plain that it isn’t.”

Although Powell has gained much notoriety amongst internet mediums, the Andy Powell Appreciation Society for Driving a Golf Buggy On The M4 fan page on Facebook has received more than 120,000 fans since the incident on 14th February, he was quick to say that he regretted his actions and was quoted as “I realise that many young sportsmen and women look up to international rugby players and that some of them may be amused by my antics with a golf buggy. However, they should note my regret and be aware that I do not excuse or condone drink-driving in any form.”

Perhaps his actions will serve as warning to anyone else tempted by the lure of unleashing these 10 mph chariots on the open road. Although I can’t imagine anyone would do this unless suffering from the extreme effects of the 19th hole.

Have travelled far and wide to be able to contribute to the 19th hole blog. Often referred to as one of the most boring people in golf due to my facts and figures about different destinations!

didn’t realise you could get banned for driving a golf buggy. You don’t even need a licence for that. Still good work, better than Tiger Woods…

Just because he got caught he was made an example of.

    The guy is a hero!
